Maybe it's best to keep Allen until the cap is cleaned up

Just ride with Allen through 2025, and enter 2026 with cap space and a good draft slot. Our job would be much more attractive to an up-and-comer. The main thing is don't push anything into 2026 cap wise that isn't absolutely necessary

You can’t man. I absolutely get what you’re saying but you can’t have a lame duck regime having roster input. You can’t keep running back the same old loser arse coach in professional football. It will breed a pretty horrific culture. Unfortunately we have institutional issues at multiple levels but you have to at least try to move on.

Bro Im not a Dennis Allen hater but he has to go.

At a certain point results matter and regardless of how you got there the head man is the fall guy always, and rightfully so.

You could say we are playing shitty backups. You could also say we couldve avoided having backups this shitty.

Edit: fire Allen and see how well Kubiak can coach a team. Then make moves for the next man up.

I just think you end up with a bad candidate making the move this season. Well, by bad, i mean not one of the top choices.

100% agree. We’re not going to get one of the big names on paper.

I’m not sure that changes until we have a more clear vision of what we want to be as a franchise though and that usually starts with the vision of a GM. Unfortunately our current vision just seemed to be trying to keep a late career Brees championship window open by pushing cap and plugging holes.

Hopefully Mickey can just get lucky and we can start building up a roster again.

You are losing lifer fans at an alarming pace. I can't seem to find anyone that actually watched the entire game. I only watched a recap of the Broncos and Chargers games and I used to sleep outside of WWL to buy $8.70 tickets in the Haslett days.

This is where I am at. From a team and fan perspective, you just can't.

Yes, it might be the best thing for tank purposes during a hard rebuild, but you just cannot.

You take a chance on someone that you don't need to pay that much.

If he sucks after 2-3 years, once you have emerged from your hell cap scenario you can hire someone better with a clean slate and a young QB.

No just no. First of all no up and comer type who isn’t an NFL HC and hasn’t been one before is gonna pass on a being a HC in the NFL.

That logic is just plain wrong.

Now if the goal is get an established playoff HC to come here, perhaps. But not for a first timer.

Also and not to put too fine a point on it. But if message board posters can figure out when the cap situation clears up don’t you think a prospective HC candidate can as well?

We are an older team with some bad contracts. Everyone knows it and everyone knows when you can create cap space. It’s part of the negotiation process longer contract demand/request, control or input in roster all factor as well.

But no up and comer is turning down an offer to be a HC.

It's been covered a handful of times, that if the intent it to fix the cap then rebuild, you keep DA through the cap purge and let the new guy come in when it's time to rebuild. If you are trying to rebuild during the cap purge, let the new guy come in and pick his own talent and you just give him a long leash. If Loomis' mindset is, we're just 1 player away "let's get him and make a run for the SB", you might as well let the players self-coach (or have a live feed into Saints Talk and let us call the plays from the message board)

quote:

Just ride with Allen through 2025, and enter 2026 with cap space

Earliest you will see good cap space is 2027 or 2028. Saints have $33M in cap space in 2026 because they only have 26 players under contract. And one of those 26 is Ram. You then need to earmark about $10M against the 2026 cap for the 2025 rookie class. Plus, when they start moving their 2025 numbers to get cap compliant, first thing they will do is dump over 50% of that into 2026. Then they get to start filling the 2025 roster through FA, unless the plan is to roll with the current 48 guys under roster and any draft picks and undrafted FAs (not saying that would not be a bad move, just unlikely)

f no. you dump allen and loomis.

if we are stuck with loomis you dump allen and go get the best you can get but you will have to give him time until this shitshow loomis has created with the roster cap is fixed. tank for top picks. trade vets for picks. start the rebuild from the ground up.

There's a human, PR factor to this and that is why Allen has to go.

This is sport that is supported by fans. The chatter will be much too loud to keep DA.

He is gone unless the Saints really go on some crazy run

And yet this place will have numerous threads a year from now saying exactly what I just stated.

I’ll be sure to bump it next year like I do everything else to show you up….

As long as Loomis is here the cap’s not getting cleaned up. He has operated the same way from day 1. The can will always get kicked. The AK41 extension should make it clear. If you wanted to do a true tear down and rebuild he was one of the only big contracts you could have gotten off the books. As long as Loomis is here, this franchise is doomed.

What you’re saying makes sense. But it won’t happen. It’s best to just fire DA, hire Aaron Glenn to be your fall guy the next two years and then go get your coach after that.
