Jay Hilgenberg is available. And you get his brother Joel, to boot!

BTW, and not to diminish an outstanding career with the Saints but this last year PFF graded him average and 19th best center. At 32 with the amount of hits he took I can’t imagine that rating would trend up in 2019.

I very much appreciate his time with the Saints.

He was a steady presence, hopeful Tom steps up.

I honestly think we will be okay

Yeah, too bad there are no Hilgenbergs around. They were the only family that plays catch by not facing each other.

According to wiki Matt Skura was the Ravens starting right guard for most of 2017 and started every game at center for them in 2018. Could be an option. Nothing like flexibility
on the o-line.

Isn't he a RFA? He may even be exclusive rights free agent. Doubtful he is even an option.

Yes he is an rfa . Doesn't mean they still can't swing a deal if they really wanted him. Even if he is exclusive rights the Ravens still have to make an offer by the deadline. I think he has a lot of potential.

Max Unger wasn’t sure his body could make it through another year
Posted by Josh Alper on March 18, 2019, 2:23 PM EDT PFT

Center Max Unger‘s retirementbecame public knowledge over the weekend, but the Saints were not caught off guard by the news.

quote:

Unger said on a Monday conference call that he made the decision to stop playing within the last month and that the Saints knew his plan before free agency got underway.

The Saints signed Nick Easton to take over at center on Sunday.

Unger said health concerns were what caused him to call it a career.

He said, via Luke Johnson of NOLA.com, that he’s been dealing with a lower-body injury for some time and didn’t think that he would be able to hold up physically this year.

“I’m retiring because I wasn’t sure I could make it through another season,” Unger said.

Unger spent the last four seasons with the Saints after a trade that sent him to New Orleans and tight end Jimmy Graham to Seattle.

He made one All-Pro first-team and two Pro Bowls with Seattle and one Pro Bowl as a member of the Saints.

Article said he was only 33. I would have thought around 36 or 37. Game just takes a toll on you.
