#Saints  DE Marcus Davenport suffered a significant foot injury in Sunday’s loss to the #49ers, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He’s expected to undergo season-ending surgery. A big loss for that defense.

Not to beat on a dead horse... but to make a super bowl, things have to go almost perfectly. You have to avoid the late season injury bug as much as you can.

All the more reason the no-call is so disgraceful. You never know when you will be that close again.

Time to officially put him in the bust category

The best ability is availability and two years in you already can’t count on him to play a full season.

Ceiling and potential are meaningless when you’re on the sideline 4+ games every year

I guess that makes Rankins a bust too, then?

Member that time when he had a running head start and got blocked by a lanky WR for like 3 seconds?

You’re correct but Saints in 09 had a starting LT, FB, often used TE, and DT go on IR. In 2017 we had damn near every LB and DE on IR including a starting S, and awful Oline injuries, fluke play away from reaching NFC Championship game, which I personally think we would have lost.

Hendrickson is a very hot/cold player. He was pretty good early in the year, had a good rookie year, bad last year. I think he is an above average player for being a backup. I like Davenport, but he is at best halfway to being in his prime.

Yeah I just hope that Davenport comes back hungry and fit next season. This could either be the best thing or the worst thing that happens to him in his career. It's up to him.

Hendrickson has a high motor but he is not close to the difference maker that Davenport could/should be.

Did they give up a first round pick for Rankins and he went on to miss 8+ games in his first two season?

Or was Rankins basically an all pro after playing 3 seasons who got hurt in the playoffs??

If Davenport can come back and play a full 16 next year then I’ll eat my words. If he can’t stay healthy then he’s not helping. Period.

Please don’t act like the situations are identical

The best ability is availability

By those terms Davenport has been below average.
