quote:Great points on our recent history of transactions equating to 7-9 seasons. Stop worrying about picks we missed on 4+ years ago as well. Just because those guys didn't pan out, under entirely different DC's at that, doesn't mean anyone that we draft this year will follow suit.
Stop worrying about the present year

I still think Saints can trade down for additional picks. They can get 2 starting corners in 1st 3 rds. Not satisfied with Williams and Breaux with prior injuries.

If we didn't have an old QB that we were pushing all-in for I would lean more to drafting a CB. All in is all in, let's do it.
Think I'll keep this list of 1st Rd CB busts in circulation...
Justin Gilbert #8 overall
SJB #58
Dee Miliner #9
DJ Hayden #12
Claiborne #6
Ras-I Dowling #33
Kyle Wilson #29
PRob #32

The more time goes by I am leaning towards pick 42 or nothing.
Take White at 32 and save 10 mil. Per year. Use that money on a proven RT or linebacker next year. Or better yet have a year where we don't convert contracts to signing bonuses and thus allow us to be in better cap situation going forward.

If we are going to look at draft bust....we should also consider the worst FA signing in history was a DB.

Nnamdi Asomugha, Philadelphia Eagles (2011)
Asomugha was coming off three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the Oakland Raiders when he signed a five-year, $60 million deal with the Eagles, whose offseason roster overhaul inspired backup quarterback Vince Young to call the Eagles a "Dream Team." Asomugha was the top free-agent player available in 2011, but the move didn't pay off in Philadelphia. The Eagles were 12-20 in the two seasons with Asomugha on the team, and he was released following the 2012 season. Asomugha played one more season in the NFL in 2013 with the San Francisco 49ers, but the career of one of the top cornerbacks in the league crashed and burned in a hurry after leaving Oakland.

Can we just wait until HE SIGNS HIS TENDER?

I mean everything you posted from that article is the same thing everyone has been saying for a month I don't see any ground breaking new info here. But for what it's worth I agree with you I'm on the Butler train and think it still happens.

Fun bunch huh?
You're a complete moron if you would take a guy like Tim Hightower that is barely in the league, has two bad knees and is somewhat competent over a guy like Ingram in his prime that ran for more than 5 ypc last year.
The Ingram hate among Saints fans is stupid as hell.

While I appreciate the sarcasm the co-worker and I discussed this with doesn't really translate well to a forum, it is rather strange you'd resort to name calling for a conversation I shared I had about two nobody RB's.
Ingram is overpaid for what he brings to the table. He was a reach as a first round pick. He isn't that good.
So there you go.

top ten back in the league that makes 4 mil a year is overpaid? okay that logic is wrong. and hes in the third year of a front loaded contract so hes making less than 4 mil this year.
5th in yards per carry last year
running backs taken in first round last ten years
Adrian Peterson
Darren McFadden
Knowshon Moreno
CJ spiller
Mark Ingram
Trent Richardson
Doug Martin
David Wilson
Todd Gurley
Melvin Gordon
Zeke Elliot
Running Backs on that list better than Ingram over their careers
Peterson
Running Backs on that list better than Ingram last year
Zeke Elliot.
You are just completely wrong on so many levels. You can dispute it all you want but the fact is you just don't like the guy. Which is okay, but don't come in here with the he sucks mantra. He's turned that corner and gone out on the field and proven himself by far over the last 4 years.

Do you really think this is Drew's last year? I realize CB has potential to be a bust, but so do most picks.

Goes against their entire process for wanting to bring Butler in over a rookie, so probably not.
Posted on 4/10/17 at 2:42 pm to WhoDatTigahsTampa
Is another rookie really better than PJ Williams, Swann, Crawley, Moore?
I'd say no.
I'd say no.

Yeah that's a great mentality to have when you have a young, up and coming QB. Brees is under contract for this, then who knows how many years he even plays. if we are truly looking down the road then we should be completely revamping right now and should deal Brees.
We are in "win now" because we have to be.

what are we saving this cap for if not to bring in talented FAs?
