This basically means we given up on Penning. His confidence will take a huge hit and they better be right on this one. If they frick it up, its going to look disastrous.

We have a spot for a head coach who trades up to draft you in the first round and then benches your arse in his second season as a starter as well. What a monumental mistake by DA in so many ways.

Penning is 24 and has the athletic profile of an all-pro LT. If you’re cutting your losses after less than 2 seasons, that’s trash coaching and development and evaluation.

Except you traded up for him in the first round and in his first season as starter you bench him. Even if the oline plays better, Hurst is not a long term answer. You can cut your losses but if this backfires and season isn’t as great maybe Gayle should cut her losses with DA as well.

Lol I love how you think Penning will bounce back from this and be fine. Like no big deal. This isn’t pee wee football man. Imagine getting demoted at your job and tell yourself yeah no big deal I’m young I’ll be fine. These are adults and professionals, this benching is embarrassing and a gut punch to the player. Frankly, a dumb decision by DA.

This is such an idiotic move. You bench your 1st round LT that is still basically a rookie on the field after a few games? Everyone who has influence in this decision needs to be benched themselves. You have to at least give the kid a real chance to get better before screwing his confidence. Nice job Saints! Idiots.
