I see what happened. You have to zero out their salary otherwise it converts that to signing bonus also.

So when the field comes up you go:

Salary - 0
Roster Bonus - 5,000,000

and that way it only converts the bonus.

Man did u see Roman Harper Sunday he just doesn't have it anymore. Rather spend that 1 mill on a younger safety/ special teamer

nah, trust me I am 100% on board with not. The issue is, I think CSP is willing to pay him 1mil to keep him on board as a player-coach to keep his locker room stable. the lockerroom went to shite in 2014 and inmates ran it, he's trying to provide stability IMHO.

harper has definitely lost a step and is showing his age on the field, but he is ball smart and makes up for it with his instincts but the reality is, he isn't fast enough to cover well. still worth keeping another year in zone coverage where he can get some help and he can coach up the younger guys who need it.

I would love to see him retire after next year and become our db coach

No way Unger should restructure or be asked. He is the only one with a pulse on that line.

This is never a pay cut, so Unger gets his money they just restructure the way that the money is paid out.

Often a guy will be due an amount his final year--say 5 million. The Saints will give the guy a check for an amount say $4 million and then add a year or two on to the contract making that $4 million spread out on the books over those 2-3 years.

When was Harper good or when did he actually have a step? Just because we've had the worst defenses in NFL history recently does not mean he became good.

I think the Saints are in good position to make some moves. But they need to be the right ones.

I think they can sign JPP and Ronald Leary no problem and snag some depth at CB in the 3rd round of the draft.

I think Streif is here one more year. Or they could sign Lelito and stick Peat at RT
