Bengals aren't trading #33 pick for Saints 2021 #1

This is a wasted pick made by Mockers that only look at box scores.

I mean I would be pretty happy without the trade.

Queen/Duvernay/Gibson would be a pretty successful draft imo.

I wouldn't want Harris. He is a Center only not a Guard. Need someone with versatility or at least Guard only.

I would not part with next year's #1 unless it was for a trade up to get a young QB in the 1st round.

The only issue I would have is if we are truly in "win now" mode, you can't spend resources building for the future. If the team's mindset was "we have the pieces in place to put us in the best position moving forward", this would be a solid move.

Based on the coach speak & moves so far; I think they are in win now mode. To me that would imply no project picks. Any picks in 1st 3 rounds are expected to make major contributions this year. Any picks in rounds 4-7 would be expected to contribute in some fashion in 2020, just not necessarily being relied on to start this year, at least at the beginning of the year.

The stats are absurd and certainly get your attention

But he’s been drawing praise from some of the QB analysts like Seth Galina. Mechanics, poise etc. Some of his advanced metrics look good. I’ve seen Jimmy G comps and some people suggesting he’s a belicheck type pick

Not a huge fan of trading future 1sts at this point. I know we are all in, but I think this is the year we have to start planning for life without Brees, and a 1st round pick could be essential next year.

What would you hope to get next year with that first? It is highly unlikely that there would be a franchise qb in that range. What difference does it make to take an extra impact player now or next year? The only difference is that you are competing for a Super Bowl this year. Next year probably not so much.

I will admit that I like duvernay but I’m not confident that he can have an impact in the upcoming year. He is not a very good route runner at this point in his career. Not sure if he is ready year 1. I think he will need to develop.

Franchise QBs don't just go in the top 10 and the draft has proven that again and again. Good QBs go in the late first and 2nd round all of the time.

Plus, if you want to move up to get a guy, you have that 1st round pick and the following year's. You have ammunition to make moves when you really NEED to.

Roster stability & construction, salary implications, a Saints future post-Brees.

This would be my biggest problem with the move. However I would hope we would be in a better position in regards to cap space four years down the line and post Brees. I would imagine once Brees retires that we would start trying to free some cap.

I feel like this is happening less and less. The major up and comers in the league are top picks. Teams are figuring out how to scout qbs and take chances on qbs earlier. The ones that are falling are typically pretty bad. There are some exceptions but it is rare if you look back the last few years.

Lamar is an exception but he does most of his damage with his legs. He doesn’t throw a whole lot of passes.

Honestly I would be interested in seeing what Taysom could do for one year. If he fails then you got an early pick the following year to work with. Who cares if you have a down year next year if you win a Super Bowl this year. When you have a chance you have to take it within reason bc it doesn’t happen often.

Let me clarify - they say his actual throwing mechanics are good. I agree he’s a bit unconventional in the pocket.

Holder’s draft was better than both remocks I have seen. Gibson was kind of the steal of that mock and y’all both took a project qb at that spot.

Trading a single first round pick is going to cost us all of that? Even if Gladney is a starter for us for years? I get being hesitant to ship off first round picks, especially because this is Brees’ final run and we have to be just as mindful of the future. But if you’re getting a CB that’s going to start for you for years, then I think that’s just as much a win-now move as a move 4-5 years from now, maybe even longer.

With Holder’s mock, we’d have the deepest roster in the league, even with contracts coming up, we’d still be in an OK position post-Brees. I don’t think 2021 first round pick is going to be nearly as important as the 2022 first round pick. That will be the pick that could determine our future as a franchise, depending on what Taysom does as the starter in 2021.

seems like a reach to trade back into the second round for.

Yeah. You're saying that Gladney is a 1st rounder. I don't think he is.
