Was he signed off of waivers?

From a few posts up:

No waivers. He's a vested veteran (played enough years) so his contract was terminated and he hit FA.

And wildtigercat got that.

I'm an official (not with the NFL) and I wouldn't have called anything on that.

Coming in at 5th on the edge defender list is OLB Paul Kruger, who only has two years left on his contract. PFF says that his contract over the next two years isn’t so bad, but for what the Browns paid him originally, he never lived up to being a dominant pass-rusher and his run defense has been below average.

standing up? Probably only on obvious passing downs.

Kruger Was known as an edge setter against the run before Cleveland. He's 6'3-4 and plays around 280 lbs. in the scheme Cleveland used last year, he was moved to strong side linebacker and dropped back in coverage a lot. Playing down lineman may be just the shot in the arm his career may need.

I disagree. Rob Ryan was just an idiot who couldn't get a call in that his players could run to save his job.

Vaccaro, Anthony, Jordan, Kruger, Fairley, Breaux, Laurinaitis, and Ellerbee would all likely start or rotate heavily if they were on another team. That's 8 of 11. To address the other starters; Byrd could move up to the top group if healthy. Same for Rankins. Williams has skill but no experience. Which speaks to your point.

This starting D is light years better than last year. The question is always the depth. That is where we are lacking. The D doesn't have to be a top 10 unit. Just middle of the pack. I think that we have a chance for that.

Kruger performed adequately as a pass-rusher in 2015, finishing with a 78.3 overall grade. He recorded a high number of pressures (43), but managed only 11 knockdowns only three of which were sacks. The big plays have not carried over from his early-career performances. He also posted a measly 48.3 run-defense grade a year ago.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again. This is a 10-12 win team depending on which way the ball bounces. We are returning to the promise land!

#Saints' deal with Paul Kruger is 1yr, $3mil, worth up to $5mil with incentives, league source told @AdamSchefter...

Would have liked a 2 year deal, but I'm happy with it. We definitely didn't overpay.

So what move are we making to fit this under the cap?

So if everything goes well this year we will have to try and resign Brees, Unger, Fairley, and Kruger...

Frick. Good luck on that Mick.

Plenty of room to easily do this, and still fit a few more FAs of varying levels.

Also we don't need to clear much for Kruger. A simple restructure of someone will do it. Or extending Unger or Brees.

Mickey will probably let Unger walk, pass up all available centers in FA and pick a guy in the seventh round or draft a UDFA.

That would easily do it

Overthecap has us with under $1 million in cap space (not sure if up to date) before Kruger. That would mean we'd near to clear $2+ million

Technically he'll be replacing a player in the top 51 so only about $1.5 mil.
