To those questioning Keenan Lewis's outcome in NO - they re-did his deal after shopping him to several teams and after word got out. Truth

@JasonLaCanfora @EdBouchette don't fall off a cliff as you backtrack there, J-LaC. You're batting .000 brah!

Who doesn't love watching LaConfaker try to weasel his way out of his yet again swing and a miss reporting of the Saints?

I don't think there was any backtracking.

Saints were in full pissed, trade mode.

Keenan ran his mouth at the wrong time

Payton got immediately pissed, probably did some calling on his value etc

Browner was signed, Heads cooled, contact made, everyone kissed and made up

there is though. When he posted his tweet that they were seeking a trade, Rapaport reported maybe 5 mins later that they were in negotiations for restructured contract. One was right, the other is wrong. I'm sure that someone may've called to inquire on Lewis, but that's different than saying they were actively seeking to trade him.

found his original tweet. "actively shopping" was his report:

quote:

@JasonLaCanfora: Saints aren't done making deals. Actively shopping disgruntled CB Keenan Lewis, asking teams not to divulge their inquiries ...

I'm sure Jason got word of the inquiries a good 24 hrs or so after the saints were making the calls. By the time jason got word what they were doing, saints probably cooled down and weren't very intrigued by a possible lack of market for keenan so quickly went to damage control and began making keenan happy.

Its hard to say that saints didn't shop keenan cause that's not being denied anywhere.

nor affirmed. he is the only one that reported this, and it was at the same time Rap reported they were negotiating new terms of a contract. If LaC wouldn't have a history of misreporting on the Saints, then he would deserve benefit of the doubt. This is not the case (though I can't remember what it was that he misreported in the past, so if anyone remembers please refresh me on this)

i'm pretty sure it was jason's tweet that made rap do some digging so when rap contacted a saints source, it was already after they cooled and began going in direction of renegot w/ keenan. still doesn't mean they didn't make some phone calls that 24 hrs after keenan ran his mouth WHILE we also had browner and tramon in house.

No biggie, i just don't think he's wrong that we didn't shop him around to at least guage value.

Could care less about the shopping...we need to spend smart money and almost fully guaranteeing a well below market value deal for a no.1 corner was smart for business on a team that is already a tad bit strapped financially.

Patrick Peterson, Richard Sherman, Darelle Revis average 14 million per season

Joe Haden averages 13.5 per season

there are roughly 23 other cornerbacks that make more money than Keenan somewhere in between those guys.

Keenan Lewis averages 5.1 million dollars per season and plays like a true no.1 more so than almost every name getting paid more than him to do it.

Lewis said he talks to Payton all the time and there was never any mention of a possible trade. Now teams do hide these talks but being that Canfora was dead wrong about Galette also, was wrong about a bunch of stuff the last few years on us and other teams, and also has an axe to grind with Payton because he shunned him, I'm willing to bet this is Canfora stirring the pot.

And yes perhaps Williams was insurance, but maybe that was in case Lewis didn't want to stay as opposed to the team trying to trade him. We could have also possibly been trying to sign both but Williams wanted too much.

Tons of what ifs and only Canfora's story smells like complete bs.

Not only do we have one of the top corner's locked up at a bargain price, he signed with us 2 years ago agreeing to less money than he was offered elsewhere. He is a rare example of a player dreaming to play for his home team and agreeing to do so at a lower price. He takes less money to sign, plays on one leg for half a year and then negotiates to keep his same contract only to make it so that he isn't leaving the team he loves.

He will be a Saints legend

Lewis is a baller! Pay him!

Legit no. 1 corner-back, hard to find a lock-down corner to play for less than 30-40 million these days.

Tramon Williams just got over 20 million at 32.

K. Lewis is a steal for the saints, and he knows it, and that gives him room to bitch.

I think Lewis is severely underrated by the rest of the league and fans. It seems like Dion Sanders is the only analyst to ever mention him as one of the top corners. He is a top 10 corner IMO, and I think many Saints fans would agree.

Robert Mays was giving him tons of praise before last season, saying he thought that Lewis was around the 5th best CB.

When news of Lewis's complaining came out, half this site was saying to just go ahead and dump him, and that Lewis "had no leverage." They all look like a bunch of dinguses now.

Yea the jabronis saying "cut his arse if he's going to whine" are Leo from what's eating Gilbert Grape level of retardation.
Yes, let's get rid of our best player on defense, and 2nd most important player on the team.
