From what I can tell he has great size and is a hometown guy. And I know the stats dont tell the whole story but 1 INT in 4 years isnt earth-shattering.

Is he just a really good fit in a 34 and doesnt need INTs to make an impact? Seems the entire board is in love with this guy and I don't want to come off as bashing him

With respect to Rams, Falcons might have Greatest Show on Turf: Steven Jackson, Roddy White, Julio Jones, Matt Ryan.

I predict a horrible defense.

..and Matt Ryan hasn't gotten over the hump yet.

I think we just wanted the Saints to sign someone. Lewis is a good, young, CB and he came at a very affordable price. Of course, we would love to see him grab more picks, but knocking them down works too.

Aside from three posters, no one on this board could have told you jack shite about Lewis two days ago.

That's agreed. I didn't know who the hell he was. If you'd have asked me to name a Pitt Corner I could have only said Ike Taylor. And I think he may have died last year.

Keenan Lewis 5-yr deal with the #Saints worth $26.3M with $10. 5M in guarantees, $6M signing bonus. He will have a base in'13 of $1M

P. Schrager ?@PSchrags Great work from @seankjensen on Keenan Lewis deal. Watch the film -- Lewis was arguably the best defender for Pitt last season.

Saints sign CB Keenan Lewis (5 years, $26M; $11M guaranteed): A Grade Keenan Lewis was the second-best cornerback still available in free agency. He's better than both Sean Smith and Cary Williams, yet he's slated to make less per year than both of them. This is not because teams didn't view Lewis as an inferior cornerback; he simply took a discount to play with the Saints. According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Sean Jensen, another team offered Lewis a much larger contract. This is obviously an awesome acquisition for the Saints. They're filling their huge corner need with a very talented player at a very reasonable price.

So everyone thinks this is a solid contract and deal for Saints? Just curious, I don't know a ton about this guy but do realize CB's are paid a little more than many positions.

Steelers fans' reactions are mixed. Some seem to think his best season of his career was last year. Some seem to think he is finally a top-tier CB.

Steeler's fans on Lews.
quote:

I really do not want to see Lewis go....not good.

quote:

Lewis is the top CB in free agency... but, the market is fairly flooded (which could drop his asking price). I think that the Steelers are taking a calculated risk. By having Cortez Allen as their big trump card AND being that there are a lot of CBs available, the Steelers can indeed allow Lewis to test the waters... and maybe, by doing so, they can resign him to a more reasonable amount ($7 million). Of course, the risk is a team w/ cap space to "waste" (Cleveland) throwing an insane amount of money at him ($12 million). Worst case scenario: Lewis leaves, and the depth chart is Ike, Cortez, and Will I am GAY. Not too shabby. Of course, I really want the tandem of Keenan & Cortez... but, if it doesn't happen, like I said, the worst case is not really that bad at all. It's like the worst case is a Shelby Mustang... while resigning Lewis is an Aston Martin. Either way, the Steelers are going to look good cruising along the boulevard.

quote:

Why is everyone worried about f'n Keenan Lewis. He had 1 good year. He rotted on the bench for 3 years of his contract.

quote:

112 passes thrown at Lewis last year. He broke up 12, with zero picks. While I agree he should get more money than what we will pay him, if somebody pays him a # 1 corner contract, it will be a gross over estimation of his skills. IMO, Lewis probably played the best season he'll ever play last year. Allen hasn't even scratched the surface.

An even funnier thread: Steelers talking about Saints shitty cap situation
quote:

they can not afford Lewis. they were is big salary cap hell!
There was no way we were going to keep him, nor should we. Not for the price he expects.
The Saints are still in the shittiest cap situation in the NFL and they think they're going to throw together cap money to sign Lewis? This isn't happening.
This one hurts, he was the one player I was hoping to keep
