The silver lining is that it saves some wear and tear on Kamara for later in the season

It wasn’t just “fighting”

I think many on this board was hoping for 6 and expecting 8. A few holdouts (me included) thinking it could be as low as 4. As far as I recall, he has never had any other off field (or on-filed) issues.

Goodell justice

Has always been about public perception and protecting the shield. The one thing he has been consistent with is if it's on video and the public sees it, he'll drop the hammer. Kamara was on camera hitting a dude that was already on the ground, what do you expect him Goodell to do?

two games for knocking a woman out and dragging her unconscious out of an elevator.

That was before the video went public, he then had the suspension lengthened

4 games for two alleged rapes by Big Ben

There was a lot of fire behind that smoke, but this was before the NFL really started tightening up on off-field issues and they were allegations. Did these women ever pursue criminal charges? If I recall correctly, they also didn't cooperate with the NFL investigation (wanted to protect their settlement)

you act like that’s a solid defense of the initial suspension

That's because you chose to pick and choose what you wanted to respond to.

I did not say it was a solid defense; but actually pointed out that Goodell only cares about public perception not the actual crimes. Reality is, if the NFL could keep arrest records private; none of these players would ever be suspended for their off-field behavior.

6 would be doable

6 would be insanely high and out of line. What precedent would point to 6 games?

We also open the season with 3 divisional games. While ATL and CAR might not be as strong as before, divisional games are always an unknown. and Saints notoriously start the season slow.

6 games would be brutal.

The victim lied about what happened as well. The league probably didn't want to dig too deep. The media did and that case was sort of the catalyst for how the league now looks at these things. Their investigations are much more thorough now because they know the media will not cover for them any more

Not the same type of accused incident, but Zeke Elliot got suspended 6 games initially. And in his case he was legally cleared as the girl had no proof and admitted later she lied about him punching her yet he still punished. In Kamara’s case there’s more proof and he could face some legal trouble (not necessarily saying jail time).

A felony? Really?

Different jurisdictions have different standards of escalation. He was involved in a fight where there were multiple participants, a person sustained serious injury, and they continued hitting him when he was in the ground (don’t recall if he lost consciousness). I can see where some jurisdictions can see any of these as a felony; reality is they’ll most likely use the felony charge to get a misdemeanor plea deal

He’s absolutely guilty of at least a misdemeanor but it’s his first offense. Hoping Goodell gives him a 4 game suspension in October timeframe

But I think Watson gets 8 to compare the crime vs the suspension is crazy.

Watson is going to miss the entire season
