re: Javonte Williams contract is why Love should not be the pick at 8

I slightly agree with this. Barkley was phenomenal. He was drafted by the giants and basically thrown away. He went to a team with the best oline in football, the best defense in football, and 2 incredible WRs. Pretty good recipe for success. Unfortunately we are not in that same position. For me investing in a rb that high with such glaring needs at high impact positions such as Oline, Wr and pass rusher is a massive mistake.

We have too much invested in our Oline with No. 1 picks. I want an elite WR or defensive playmaker.
If Love is there you take him or trade down.

A running back is at the end of his career for the most part at 28-29 where LTs, guards, WRs, WRs, tight ends, corners, are still in their prime.
Tyler Shough is already 26 and there is a short window to cash in while on his 1st contract. No one is drafting players with the worry of what they’ll be at 30. Second contracts are such a crapshoot for all players.

Are you joking? The idea of cashing in before a qb reaches his second contract is comical. What qb has won a Super Bowl recently in their rookie contract? Let’s look at the last qbs to win a super bowl. Darnold? Signed a big contract with Seattle. Hurts? Signed a 255 million dollar contract before their Super Bowl. Mahomes? Signed a 500 million dollar contract prior to winning his last two super bowls. Stafford before that. Shall we go on? The saints need to draft well at high impact positions and if you don’t think teams are drafting players to develop them and have them on this team into not only their first contract but also their second then you should quit watching this sport.

Javonte Williams contract is why Love should not be the pick at 8

Agreed, there is no denying Love is a great talent, but I feel we can get a really good RB in 2nd or 3rd.
With our pick, I think we should take DE Bain/Bailey or one of those WRs Tate/Lemon.
If none are available, trade down into teens , get extra picks , and draft CBs McCoy/ Delane , Guard Ioane/Proctor , or TE Sadiq.

Yeah the drop off on RB talent is going to be pretty high this year
The number 2 RB is ranked 77 overall (3rd round) prospect on ESPN at least

Who do they have as RB2?
This is why the drop off is steep
This is why the drop off is steep
quote:
Jeremiyah Love faced the lowest rate of light boxes in this draft class last season (35.2% of his attempts).
When he did face a box with 6 or fewer defenders (70 attempts), he averaged 9.1 yards per carry, the most in the country.
When Love was contacted beyond the line of scrimmage last season, he averaged 10.0 yards per rush.
That is the most of any RB in college with 100+ rushes over the past 10 seasons.

His teammate Price. The drop off isn’t as severe as some people have Price going early 2nd round. The drop off is due to this being one of the weaker running back drafts in a while. If Love is in the draft last year he’s probably not generating the amount of hype as he is this year. This draft class at rb is real bad outside of the top 2.

He played two teams that were worth anything this year. That’s not his fault at all. With that being said his first two games were against legitimate opponents. In those games he had 10 carries for 33 yards against Miami and 23 for 94 yards against A&M.

They tried to do the same with Bijan vs Bama. Doesn’t matter. But if two of the older defenses in the NCAA filled with blue chippers decided to gameplan to stop a RB, that’s probably what it looks like

I’m not arguing that Love is good. You also have to look at the competition he is facing. Those numbers are highly inflated. Jeanty was more incredible in college than Love was. You can also look at his stats the year prior against elite competition. Pretty similar stuff.

They have Price 107th overall and 5th best RB

Really? Price is projected to go much higher than Nick Singleton in almost every mock. Not that they mean anything. shite, Kiper has Price going in the first round in his latest mock. Daniel Jeremiah has Price as a top 50 prospect.

To be fair, PFF has Price as #2 but 61 overall.
Price 61
Jonah Coleman 78
E Johnson 81
Seth Mcgowan 98
Singleton 119
still a healthy dropoff from Rb1

Yeah, rankings on websites can be all over the place. This rb class is poo poo compared to last years. That was a legendary draft class.

Emmett Johnson is going to shoot up after the combine. Jonah Coleman is a stud too. I like them more than Price
Posted on 2/24/26 at 3:48 pm to GynoSandberg
After hearing reports around the combine, I don’t think Love makes it to 8 either
Posted on 2/24/26 at 4:00 pm to WicKed WayZ
Yea once the combine confirms what we already know, it’s going to be a feeding frenzy on Love. Kinda hoping he goes before us just so we don’t have to have these stupid conversions this offseason
