Dude looks like a monster to me

Fans love to bash UDFAs. Arnold was a freaking college WR at some no-name school playing as an NFL rookie.
It's not outlandish to think he'll get better.
Players typically do improve.

After looking at his highlights and stats......... yes! We need to get this guy!

That's not bad in itself.
Depending on him and 37 year old Been Watson to catch balls for you in the NFC championship is.
He catches that TD in Q1 and we win the game.

quote:You seem to have left off Aaron Rodgers. Does a player get a free pass as long as they play with a lot of bad QBs and are now 32 years old? I'm all for taking a shot on him for a reasonable price, but highly doubt he comes for a reasonable price. He is a pretty good TE in a bad TE FA pool.
ook at the QBs he’s played with
Matt Hasselbeck
Austin Davis
Jake Locker
Nick Foles
Kellen Clemens
Sam Bradford
Kerry Collins
Shaun Hill
Case Keenum
Vince Young
Rusty Smith

You caught me red handed!
I left off Rodgers and Carr bc everyone remembers that he played with them. Do you know he only played 10 games in Green Bay that year? And Rodgers historically doesn’t target the TE like he does his WR - Jordy, Adams and Cobb saw nearly 60% of his looks that year
I don’t think anyone really thinks otherwise. But he is a huge upgrade and if you have one more chance at it, what else can you do? He possesses the pass catching and run after the catch that Brees has missed from the position

quote:Can't overpay for an average to above average TE though. If he comes for a reasonable price, he would be fine, but we should not overpay to force it. I'm hoping that the rumor of the Vikings asking Rudolph to take a pay cut is true and he hits the streets.

I don’t really care for cook in the grand scope of TE, but I’m not sure you can sit around and risk not adding at the position if no other TEs become available. Sure everyone wants Doyle, Brate, Rudolph etc. We don’t know what’s going to happen with them
A rookie TE isn’t the answer nor is our current TEs given the window . He will have a career year with Brees and our offense will be better for it. The money will likely hurt though

We just have to deal with it. It's basically either Jared Cook at TE or we're screwed.

Yeah sometimes the market forces you to overpay. We are desperate and he's probably the best available solution. It's a perfect situation for him to get an above market deal. Hopefully it won't hurt too bad.

Cook not being signed is a good omen for his asking price imo

Hated cook for a while but he’s been pretty reliable for the raiders the last two years

TE is a position that usually takes a couple seasons to develop. The Saints window for a title is right now. Cook isn’t elite but he’s a top 10 TE and major upgrade for this team. I hope they get this done

The guy is coming off his best year as a pro at age 31. He finally had a QB target him. He is top 10 in the league and exactly a position of need for us.

Hoping for news soon...and that he doesn't leave without a contract.

Me as well. Starting to get uneasy.

quote:That's part of the concern. His best year came at age 31 playing for a bad team that played from behind in most of its games (and had traded away its top WR). He was their main receiving target, so his stats may be a bit inflated. He has never been a reliable red zone target despite his size.

I think he would do well with Brees in this offense, but I just do not want to see us pay him like a top 5 or 6 TE.
