Not sure why but losing to the expansion browns and give in them their first win felt alot worse.

That’s not even the worst loss to give an expansion team their first win.

49ers in 2011 was worse

In 2011 we kinda knew there were players at the end of the road and the the looming salary cap issues. Obviously it was made worse by Payton’s suspension and some awful FA signings

Right now though, we have a LOADED core of dudes. And Drew can still win you a championship.

Ranks up there with the Erxleben fiasco, the Aaron Brooks backward pass, the missed PAT after the river city relay. I'm sure I am missing a couple of more. It even made the National hard news channels. This one is gonna take some time to get over.

I mean if Marcus Williams makes that tackle the saints are going to the super bowl. The eagles are a joke.
You don't know that at all. The Eagles have an excellent defense and the Saints would have been spent after a win in Minny then back on the road.

No, the 49ers loss was because that was the better Saints team.

1983, season finale against the Rams?
Yep, worse than this. I was a kid and didn't get over it for months. Had never seen the Saints in the playoffs, had never even seen a winning record. If Bum lets Andersen kick the FG, we win. But, no.

He makes that tackle and diggs gets out of bounds they have a 48 yard field goal FTW.

I thought this too but he was further from the sideline than I thought and Williams and Crawley were both ready to make the tackle - plus he was coming back to the ball so moving in the wrong direction.

Stupid and primacy effect. We would have lost in the first round of the playoffs - who gives a shite about that? Half the guys who go to Saints games every Sunday in the Dome either weren’t born or don’t remember it

Nobody agonizes over the Vikings playoff loss from the 87 season. We still agonize over 49ers divisional loss and this one was worse.

I noted that I was a kid at the time. It's still up there for me.

No way this one was worse, it's simply more acute. The 2011 team was probably the best team in Saints history. It was far more likely to win a Super Bowl than this banged up unit.

In my opinion yes

The SF loss was real close, but at least at that point we still had a lot of hope for the future as Brees was still in his mid 30s.

This team has a shite load of young talent, but the most important player on the team is 39

This is worse than San Francisco. We made Alex Smith drive the length of the field. This was so much worse, on so many levels.

debatable... He'll only be a year older by our next shot at it

I'd put the Beast Mode run and Carney's missed extra point up there with any bad Saints loss ever

Will say this... You can't really have bad losses stand out in bad seasons. They occur in good seasons when you have consequences to them

Who gives a frick about a backwards pass in a game that we were like 2-5 going into? Are you retarded? That game had literally zero importance

But Brees is 39 now and has lost his fastball. The Falcons and Panthers weren’t nearly as good in 2011. This loss was worse - it probably cost us the Brees Brady Super Bowl

Agreed, that team could of won the superbowl. Don't think the saints could have beat the pats this year. Brady would have carved us up
