I'm purely speculating as well here, but I can't see how Brees can take the fact that a franchise tag valued at $21M for a single season and try to cobble that into an argument that he's worth $22.5-23M a year. There's no way he's getting that much. Just a few weeks ago, his negotations team even leaked out that he wasn't seeking more than $21M a year.
Anyhow, I do agree with you on the most important point- that we'd be seeing a lot more smoke from legit sources if this was happening today. I think the first thing that would indicate a signing would be Brees headed for NOLA. That would spotted from hours away.

So he has no incentive to sign before he knows what the ruling will be. I could see him signing before the ruling if it leaks out which way the wind is blowing, however.

OP needs to frick off with these threads. It should be a bannable offense on these boards if anyone post ANYTHING about Drew's contract unless it's 100% confirmed...
