10 straight 4,300 yard seasons. That's best by quite a margin. 3 more years and 1 more championship and he's legit top 5 at least.

Brees is ahead of guys like Montana (a system QB), Young, Elway, Fouts, and Marino.

But he is behind Manning (GOAT), Brady, and Unitas IMHO. I'd put Brees at 4 and Favre at 5.

I put Brees "neck and neck" with Young at #6 on an all-time QB list and got down-voted lol

Looking at that list again, I'd put Brees ahead of Marino for sure.

quote:

1. Montana
2. Brady
3. Manning
4. Favre
5. Marino
6. Young
7. Elway

1. Montana
2. Brady
3. Manning
4. Favre
5. Brees/Young
6. Marino
7. Elway

You can't with a straight face say that Brees is a better QB than Elway. That is laughable.

Just read the entire thread. All I can say is WOW...no one in their right mind would put Brees ahead of Elway, Montana, Unitas, Brady, Manning, Stauback, Marino, Favre, Young, Rodgers, Big Ben, Bradshaw, and there are others. That's just off the top of my head. I would say he is in that 20-30 range.

So, the fact he has a higher completion percentage, more yards per game, and more touchdowns per game than all those guys means nothing

I haven't had the advantage of seeing some of the older greats, and I must give some deference. But when you start talking about Ben is CLEARLY better, you've lost me.

When Brees retires, the analysts will bring out the lists. When looking at Brees individually and considering his lack of defenses and his rotational receivers, it will be clear his is in the top ten; in what order, as some here have mentioned, will be the real question.

I love Brees and everything he has done for New Orleans. But he is not a top 10 QB of all time. You can't just look at stats. So much more goes into it. Today's NFL is much different with the high octane offenses. Let me ask you this. If Brees is a Top 10 QB of all time then he should be a fist ballot Hall of Famer, right? That's def not a for sure thing and I would lean on him not being inducted his first time up. But you def don't hear anyone debating if Manning or Brady are first ballot hof'ers. That's because they are both generational type qbs. Brees is not

Manning has always been called a 1st ballet HoF because of his stats. His super bowl wins equal only one better than Brees. It was always said that he couldn't win the big game because of Brady, but his numbers would put him in the Hall. He also lost to Brees head to head in the big game. The only active person in the league that can even touch Manning's stats is Brees barring any derailment, if you don't think Brees is a 1st ballot HoF pick you're not being realistic.

How many League MVP's does Drew have? How can Drew be a top 10 QB if he hasn't even won a league MVP at this point in his career? I think I'm being very realistic. Bree's is a totally different QB inside a done than outside of one. If he played indoors every game then he would def be top 10.

I compare Drew to Kurt Warner. Both great qbs but both benefited greatly from the systems they played in. Both also played much better inside than outside stadiums. Also, Kurt Warner wasn't a first ballot hall of famer. And I would say his tenure with the Rams was much better than Brees time in Nola. So I def think it's realistic to say Brees won't be a first ballot hall of famer

So you looked at Brees's ten year run and compare it on an even level to Warner's sporadic 3 good/great years out of ten season and call them equals? Warner also had one of the greatest running backs to ever play to distract the defenses that he faced.

Career comparisons
Brees: 216 games 66.4 pct. 60903 yards 428 TDs 95.8 rating
Warner: 124 games 65.5 pct. 32344 yards 208 TDs 93.7rating

Also, Warren Moon, Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, and Jim Kelly were all first ballot HoF with out winning the big one. Moon, Kelly, and Fouts never won league MVP awards either.

You do realize that Farve, Young, and Elway all won Super Bowls running the same offense as Montana? That system QB mess needs to go way, there were many that ran the same plays in the NFL and did not achieve the same success as Montana.

Brees IS the system, moron. How many other quarterbacks have excelled in the vaunted Saints franchise before Brees? Look at the unknown supporting cast Brees delivered with year after year. Undrafted free agents, 7th round picks, etc.
