If Mingo dropped to us would you take him @#15? Add Montgomery to this thread!

Yes, I am an LSU fan. Not being a homer for LSU but these local players just happen to be the players we know the most about. Mingo also represents one of our greatest needs. He's not the DE we need but a great pass rushing OLB. With him projected at #8 it may be wishful thinking anyway.

I think of the two Montgomery would fit our defense better. I know Spags loves those undersized DEs in his scheme so I do expect us to take someone quick to line up across from Jordan.

God yes. No way in hell you turn down a talent like that. He's a Miller or Smith clone IMO

Montgomery hasn't committed yet but one of the two would have to drop to us unless there is a run on DE's and OLB's ahead of us.

no...I don't think he does much at all in the NFL. I think he will get swallowed up by NFL OTs and spend a career getting stonewalled or running right by the pocket.

I posted this a while back, but I think Mingo has potential to be a big time football player in the NFL if he's used correctly.

quote:

As a senior, Freeney was 6'2" and 250 lbs. per his Syracuse bio. His combine numbers were 6'1" and 266 lbs.

Elvis Dumerville's combine numbers list him at 6'1" and 257 lbs.

Kamerion Wimbley is listed as 6'4", 255 lbs in his 7th season.

Terrell Suggs was listed at 6'4", 257 lbs out of college.

Mingo is consistently listed at 6'4"/6'5" and 240 lbs. If he stayed his Sr. year, he could be around 250 pretty easily.

I think he's got the potential of the guys above. I think Montgomery will be another Will Smith/Cameron Jordan type DE. I just think Mingo has the potential to be a Demarcus Ware or JJ Watts type of playmaker.

If Montgomery bolts for the draft, where is he projected?

Looks like Montgomery and Logan just declared for the draft. Prospects getting better for our pick at LSU's expense.

First, I don't think Mingo is 240. He's got to put on a lot of weight while not sacrificing speed and mobility.

Those othee guys have 20+ lbs on him as it is. Dumerville/Freeney are short and use their low center of gravity as an advantage when rushing the passer. Not really how mingo gets it done.

Suggs and Wimbley are thick and jacked.

I like Mingo. But if he weighs under 240 at the combine he may be more of a project than an NFL ready DE. He has a long way to go to be a Ware/Watt playmaker

As a LB, yes. As a 4-3 defensive end, no.

Yeah this is a tough one for me. He shows amazing potential with his quickness but I just have to wonder if he can be strong enough to be a dominant pass rusher. I think he could be if he works at it hard enough but we will just have to wait and see

well, obviously.

i dont think that is in our defense though.

ideally he'll be drafted by a 3-4 team.

I don't think Mingo comes in and dominates in the NFL. None of those guys did, it took them a few years. I think he needs to be used like the Ravens use Suggs. DE/OLB who rushes the QB. I think they've even put Suggs as a safety sometimes.

I don't think Mingo starts out as an everydown DE, but as a situational player. Then he becomes that Suggs/Mathis/Freeny every down type of player. IMHO

Duh! don't come here with that bs saying Mingo can't play linebacker in the 4-3 look at Von Miller projected to play linebacker in a 3-4 and broncos play 4-3 and he is one of the best players and pass rushers in the league

Mingo has an insane ceiling, so hell yes. If he can gain any weight+strength, he's going to be unstoppable in the NFL.

Dude you need to chill the frick out. Von Miller is not Mingo. Welcome to the board but if most of your posts offer this little rationale I fear it'll be a short stay.

I'm not comparing him to Von Miller at all. I was just saying Mingo has the skill set to play 4-3 lineback he can be our Von Miller
