Think of all the bad local press he would get if he didn't sign with the Saints.
That is by far the least of his problems
And our local media blows so I wouldn't give a shite if I were him.

It's not rocket science. If he's not drafted then free agency is his only option. Can't re enter. If he's drafted and doesn't sign he can re enter draft last year. Can't draft him unless he would agree to a deal ahead of time. Otherwise I'd give him a good signing bonus and take him as a free agency.

Hes already said he wont sign as a last day pick, nobody will waste a pick on someone that wont sign. I hate it for him, but he, or his agent did this. If it was his agents idea, I would fire him on the spot. He made a situation where his only way to get to the NFL is to go undrafted.

If you contact him first and he agrees to sign, then absolutely.
Posted on 5/2/15 at 3:56 pm to High C
draft him so no one can negotiate with in case he changes his mind.
Posted on 5/2/15 at 4:03 pm to Kramer26
Absolutely - draft him but expect to pay 2nd round money
Posted on 5/2/15 at 4:04 pm to High C
If you called me, I'd agree to sign, then change my mind after im drafted. Might be an as whole thing to do, but we're talking about millions of dollars.

He is got to be guilty of something. He might not of done it but he might have something to do with it. Just because he is LSU doesn't mean he isn't guilty. If no teams draft him must mean something in his personality make you think he had something to do with the crime. If he gets cleared you best believe the city will get sued for costing him money and he will win and he will not want nothing to do with new Orleans.

Are you implying that New Orleans would be sued?

I haven't seen an answer to that, but I really don't think they're gonna shell out anything more than typical UDFA money to a guy where this is all still up in the air

i believe there is a cap
you can only make rookie minimum and you can't get a singing bonus over 75K

This is why what his agent said was so stupid. If he wanted to enter the draft next year...he needed to be drafted.

His agent has screwed him exponentially more every day since Wednesday with every new sliver of story advancement
Posted on 5/2/15 at 5:08 pm to Kramer26
As others mentioned before, he's not signing any contract and will most likely enter next draft. Even if innocent I'd wager the saints are still not going to draft or sign him especially with how the NFL is handling the rash of high profile felony crimes including a serial rapist, Darren Sharper. And that's IF he is innocent.

Well now that he has no draft eligibility, I think the Saints have a great shot at signing him as UDFA. If you have to be screwed the first few years, do it at home.
At the same time, give him guarantees. Like if starter after year two he can void contract and become FA or something.

Aren't udfa contracts also structured by the cba

At that point, I say you let him become a FA because you still should not take the risk he might be indicted for murder.

This isn't the old style baseball draft.

He cannot.

@Gil_Brandt
If La'el Collins goes undrafted, he's a FA --> CANNOT go back into draft.
If he gets drafted and does not sign --> CAN re-enter in 2016.
