I think I’m done with the NFL

I think I’m done with professional football. Not a protest thing or skyscreamer thing. I’m just steadily losing interest. It’ll never be like the glory days of the past. Players will never respect the game the way they used to. Players today talking about how much the NFL “owes” them for playing.
They get tens of millions in contracts then blow their money on cars, hookers, drugs, houses, trips, stupid investments; and then give interviews about everything the NFL took from them. Forget that they’re 1 of 100 players that played D1 ball and a team selected them, nope... it’s ALWAYS about what they’re owed. Never thankful. Never appreciative. Just bad grammar on Twitter and flexing their money.
I worked with an ex-NFL player that told me that he basically had to pretend to be stupid because he was involved in a lawsuit against the NFL for brain injury.
Then they even have the audacity to pull shite like this. I’m done with all pro sports. Maybe the police does need reform, but God Damn so does pro sports.
Feel free to bookmark if you want to call me on it later. Not there yet but it’s heading that direction.

Bountygate
Refgate
Now this
There is plenty of heartbreak in sports for fans just in winning and losing fairly on the field
Drew and the Saints showed how much bigger sports are to a region when handled properly
The NFL and Media is proving how much those same external factors can ruin sports
Still processing everything but to suggest my interest hasnt been waning since the no call, faux olive branch of review, and again now this
Saints are supposed to bring us together and now even this has become divisive and not because of what Drew said
Fans in the street saying frick Drew Brees, teammates publicly turning on him, a coach and organization quiet in defense of one of the best human beings in the sport and state
Maybe we should bust out the bags again. Kinda ashamed of my team and some of the people who call themselves fans.
Drew helped pick up a broken city, state, and region. He carried many people in need on his back through "just" playing a game but also investing in our community and being a model citizen for what 14-15 years without incident
And the first time there is a time where he needs us...some people disgracefully turn on him. So much for love New Orleans and it will love you back. Might as well add...and will turn on you at first sight of trouble.

I feel the same way. Bountygate hurt but I recovered from it. By 2017 Bountygate was a distant memory for me and I was fully invested back in the Saints.
Refgate broke me. Last year I really tried but it just wasn't the same. Something felt off the entire season. I just couldn't get invested the same way I had.
This whole fiasco of throwing Drew under the bus I think is going to finish me off. Once Drew is out I think I'll be out.

I literally thought the same thing today. I had to check myself man. Like why did I have that thought? Its not about any issues currently. Im with almost all of it. I just dont have that juice for the NFL like I used to. Its really a shite show when you think about it.

This is what I need to decide on. I love sports in general so I need something to replace it.
NBA - Manages crisis far better than the NFL but the players are the same. Screw them.
MLB - Might not even have a season this year. Players are money hungry and out of touch. Aging fan base and dying game. Screw them.
MLS - Same type of players as the NFL and out of all pro leagues by far the most liberal fans. Screw them.
NHL is the one I'm really considering. Never grew up around hockey, never played hockey and never really got into it. I might try now. I hear attending an NHL game is an incredible experience. Just non stop action.

NHL is awesome man. you will like it. fast and hard hitting. skill. Been watching all my life.
problem is you will have these SJW in all sports but the NFL is the worst and others at least contain it as i laid out. the NFL deserves to go bankrupt. would love to see all these clowns lose their asses and go work a real job.

I might look into it. I live about an hour from Tampa so they have a really good team in the Lightning. Really good owner as well who is involved in the community.

Yet you still watch & talk about it regularly. You are full of hot air that’s for sure. Typical
Blow hard

It's what happened to me. I used to watch all NFL. Then only the Saints. In the last three years I've gone from watching all the Saints games to catching some of the game to not watching any of the game, and just catching up on what happened from here. I'm probably moving on to the 4th stage to not even checking in on what happened. I will still watch just about any college game. I will see if that lasts.

NHL game incredible experience
An NHL game is far and away the most fun professional sporting event I have ever attended

Sports are great when you are young with little responsibility and an unformed sense of self. They become part of your sense of self, hence the firey passion.
As you age and grow in responsibilities and flourish in your career, sport is supplanted and your team becomes less of who you are as a person.
With or without the politics in sports, they will become less attractive over time.

This is true. I think it loses a lot on TV. It's so much better in person.
