If he believes a player that is available could make a huge difference i think he would make that sacrifice for the team.

I'm not sure how much he can restructure. I'm pretty sure hes on a fully guaranteed, two year deal. There's no money to move around to later years.

They'd have to extend him first, right?

Did you miss his last deal where he also allowed a team option?

He makes less than Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, and Jimmy Garropolo, I could go on. He takes a pretty big discount.

So you’re dumb enough to think he’s over paid at $25m when Dak is about to get $35-$40m???

You don't think he's playing better than the qbs making more per year?

ETA: What Kyle said above

He’s been discounted every year of his career. Big facts.

I was saying Brees not only gave the team a discounted cost, but the ability to cut him via the team option after the first season for added protection to the Saints

@kyle you cant go on too far. Drew and Tom are still top 10 highest paid.

Edit: My bad. Drew is yearly in the top ten (he is 10 this year at 25 million this year). Tom gives real deal discounts to the Pats and has done so for years.

How does Tom do it? It’s almost like he is married to a girl who makes as much as him. $580 net worth as a couple can afford a pretty nice discount.

That was a voidable year used to spread out the signing bonus cap hits over an extra season. We did the same for Fairley, among others.

There was a team option after year 1 too, the money didn't become guaranteed until after a certain point in early 2019

The guaranteed money for the deal was 27 million

ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes that Brees’ new deal will be written as a two-year deal, but in actuality it will be a one-year deal with a team option after the first year. It also will include a no-trade clause, virtually ensuring that Brees finishes his career in New Orleans. The Saints also don’t have to worry about that whole $18 million in dead money that was looming.

I've seen enough of Teddy to be okay with a 1 year extension, if that helps to land a WR.

Bree’s has made what $200 million in his career. Dude needs every penny to feed his kids.

One more SB win cements his legacy and puts him above Peyton and Rogers.
