I’m not about to shite on the guy when he’s held his own this year. He’s an average starting tackle in pass pro and top end run blocker. The pick is history now. Lots of teams would take his play this year.
I'm not necessarily giving up on him. But I am saying that if we have a top pick and there's tackle available, I'm not against taking one. Penning's pass blocking still needs a lot of work

I said it last year and this year it appears to be the same. I wouldn't mind if every Pic was on the two lines. Our depth is non existent.

Seems like he has made progress this year, if he continues, even if its slow, its big win after we thought he would be a bust.
Does anyone know his grade so far this year?

It was good for run blocking and a bit below avg on pass blocking as I remember. I think he was in the middle on penalties. He has come a long way since a lot of stupid people gave him the start at LT. I really hope he can have a future as I very much like watching him get to the second level and absolutely destroy people on running plays lol.

He was the #1 ranked tackle last week. Idk if I’d say he still needs a lot of work. He’s becoming a good tackle. Goes to show that you shouldn’t just give up on people when they don’t become stars immediately.
All that to say that I think we are fine at OT now with Penning and Fuaga. We need to focus in other areas that need improvement.

If he finishes the season strong - I say we are rather secure ate that position, you hope to keep him at a solid price and move your focus to LG
We still desperately need two defensive linemen, a linebacker, a safety, a wide receiver, a tight end, and I'd say a cornerback too.
Lots of holes, you gotta hope we somehow nail 5 this year.

I’d venture to guess his improved play has a lot to do with getting live reps, something clicking for him, and Kubiak is known to run an offense that is oline friendly. Does a new HC bring in a new OC and we see a regression; or do they continue with Kubiak and we see Penning continue to grow

He is playing like he belongs in the NFL and seems to be improving.

I think most people would have understood and even been happy if he were cut this past offseason.
I wouldn't have. You gain nothing by doing that.
I was shitting on him like everyone else but I wasn't for cutting him.

Lots of people forgot about Jon Stimhcomb. He was really good in college. It took him 5 years to develop enough to start and be a good player. And he went against SEC competition.
I woukd have slid him inside to left guard. Think his strengths are better suited there but I’m glad he’s proving to handle tackle. Decent Guards are easier to find. And he should only improve with more game experience.

As well as interior Oline
Agreed, but will Will Campbell is on the board when the Saints pick, i wouldnt be upset if they took him and flipped Fuaga to RT and pushed Penning inside.
I also think that a big 6'5" receiver is needed (guy from Arizona). But yes, more OL in general is desperately needed

The OTs are doing well all considered (Penning is approving and Fuaga has been decent for a rookie). The interior of the OL is a problem and will need to be addressed in the offseason.
