dude it's common knowledge. i believe we only needed 1 more win to go to the playoffs
At one point I also remember saying...just get us 1 more win for the playoffs, Haslett and Brooks, then we lost our last 4 games.

it was a stupid fricking decision to start brooks those 3 games or so when his shoulder was fricked
No it wasn't...it was a no brainer!
Its easy for Haslett to admitt that now, hind sight is 20/20....unfortunately Brooks was our best shot of winning those games, so even if his shoulder was not 100%, the Saints and everybody else wanted him to play!

it's pretty simple really, if we fire gibbs i think we can get there. SFP you're leaving out drafting ellis. and i dont care who your DB's are, if your front four cant pressure the QB, your DB's wont be successful. jason david was a huge mistake. tracy porter seems like he'll develop into a real nice corner and gay should be a nice nickel.

it's more than the front 4
it's just your overall ability to pressure the QB
gibbs sucks at it

How anyone could state that a hurt or unhurt Brooks was a better option than a healthy Delhomme is a complete moron. Delhomme has dominated the Saints since he moved to Carolina.

jake delhomme hates louisiana!

OK good research but we should be 6-1 or 5-2 if he left the ego at home and GET A NEW TRAINING STAFF

lead the Saints to a Super Bowl?
I am still not sure I believe this can happen. Payton has gotten closer than anyone else.

what was his playoff %?
how many AFC title games did he get to before that super bowl?
how many super bowls did he get to before he won it? [/quote]
He was 12-9 in the playoffs. (somewhat skewed because he had to win the wild card game the year they went to the playoffs when they won 4 games that year) Before that year though he was 9-9 which is the same percentage as SP.
He went to six AFC championship games.
He went to one superbowl in '95 and was blown out before winning it in 2005.
I think Loomis and LeBlanc have had 3 season's to fix it. Hell the Saints have had 20 years to fix the secondary and haven't done it. Other spots needed more attention apparently and they missed on the attempts they made to fix it. At least they are trying and Porter was doing well before he got hurt.

please tell me that was sarcasm....
Because:

he's been to 6 AFC CGs, and 2 Super Bowls...
come on man, i'm as much a homer as much as most, but as of right now SP<<<<<BC..
Now do i think SP needs to be fired? NO, but he needs to make some changes... at DC (and all other defensive coaches), Oline coach, and I would favor him letting his OC call the plays so SP can concentrate on the team as a whole...

SFP,this whole time I have been talking about Haslett after Delhome left the Saints. Brooks injured his shoulder in '05 way after Jake left for the Panthers.
dude you seriously argue in circle's, its officially comical now.

you're comparing an 18 game sample to a 2 game sample?
and since we're taking out "skewed" stats, payton's ONE playoff victory shouldn't count b/c that year is the outlier so far

that was a close game until the gilbride-cowher run/pass meltdown

i may have been wrong about our backup, but almost any QB would have been better than brooks at that point
he had at least 1 sub-30 QB rating game

if any saints coach went to 13 conference championship games and only made the super bowl twice, you can bet our fans would be calling for his head, thats 15% winning. that would be unacceptable by some of ya'lls standards. i think we need to give him more time. gibbs has to go. he can't put one of the worst defenses on the field every year and stay. especially with our TOP. we need to add a new free safety and a new outside LB. pull one of the assistants out of new england, new york etc. gibbs is proven he sucks and not just his time with the saints.

I agree with the homers on here. I think Payton has a chance, we just need to give him some more time. He tried to fix the secondary and our brightest pupil is out for the rest of the season. Also, if our DLine could actually pressure a QB the secondary wouldn't look as horrible as they do! The QB has all day to throw, who could cover a WR for 4-5 seconds every play!!? Hopefully, with the new contract and all, Payton can keep the Offense like it is and just focus on the D!
