Here to eat crow about Sean Payton

I was way too hard on Payton. I always knew he was a very good head coach, but during the last 5-6 seasons especially, he did some things that irked me. Dumb challenges, stubborn playcalling and personnel choices. Getting annoyed that he got so many delay of games / wasted so many timeouts.
I let that cloud my judgement and my appreciation for him. He is a Hall of Fame head coach who succeeded at the highest level for 15 years. We always had a swagger and a team that fought and believed when he was leading them. We were insanely lucky to have him for so long.

I’ll join you in that. I was way too optimistic the team would carry on with the talent we have. I was wrong. Coaching makes all the difference.

Losing in the playoffs every year is a hell of a lot better than being a bottom feeder when you have a top 5 roster

This happened in 2006 too

Payton had Drew Brees and split when he didn’t anymore
Sometimes you just find yourself in an ideal situation
Allen has Winston. Watch the game dude

He’s a HoF coach. You didn’t think different, did you mate?

Absolutely it did. But I was always shocked that Payton never improved on those things and that shock turned into resentment over time. It's his one flaw is he's so fricking stubborn. But that's probably why he's a great leader and the guys all buy in year after year.

No, he's not. Like everyone else in this organization, he coasted on Drew Brees' coattails. Why do you think he left after one year without Brees?

Payton actually had a REALLY good record when Brees wasn't his starter. I think last year was one of his best coaching jobs we saw. He was smart enough to realize that Jameis ain't it and that it's a grind without a HOF QB.
I think if Brees had retired a year earlier and we had gotten Tom Brady that Payton would have stayed and extended our glory days by 3-5 extra years.

Ha, looks like I was wrong. Said this board would turn against Dennis Allen hire by week 8 looking like it will be much sooner.

Better than no playoffs.
And we got completely fricked out of a couple SB appearances by the refs at no fault of SP or the team’s performance

Then Allen needs to have the nuts to bench him until he is healthy.
Having him out there stinking it up and risking further injury isn't helping anyone.

Not totally fair as the team was primarily built for the tail end of Brees'prime (2016-2020)
