And maybe that's the answer, people feeling guilty for overreacting are now overcompensating.

The people showing up at Academy have no clue that he missed his 2nd kick as a Saint.

Those little girls watched the Super Bowl just for the commercials, and then when they saw our emo kicker, they all said in unison, "OMG, HE's CUTE!".

I agree that's why I was kind of surprised he would only sign 200.

Don't know why he wouldn't do more than 200?

He did more for the Saints in one season than Morten Andersen did in in his whole career.

Some people who belong to an organization in Canton, Ohio have a slightly different take on that.

Why is he only signing 200? This sounds like he could do a little bit more considering about 600 showed up for him.

And you seem to have no idea that this is his second year as a Saint.

Man you people are dense. I've been defending Hartley since before the season when people were talking about how crappy Payton's kicker evaluation was, LINK And I defended him when people said he should be cut after the Tampa game too. I am definitely not a Hartley Hater, I just don't see how he rose up the Saint Star heirarchy so quickly.

ATLEAST 600 we have one of the biggest Academys. Store is huge and i left at 5 and the and line was wrapped around half the store. I dont believe they told the people it was only the first 200. And about the every associate one item, thats what was told at first then they changed it.

It's not that hard to understand; Hartley kicked the field goal to send us to the Super Bowl.

- It was in OT so the effect of the kick was immediate
- It was right down the middle with great distance, literally a perfect kick
- It wasn't that long, but it wasn't an automatic kick either
- It was very clutch, missing that kick would most likely means we don't go to the Super Bowl
- He has a good kicking resume outside of that kick so no one can say he is unjustifiably hyped over one great play

His kick was a defining moment in all Saints fans' lives; we will NEVER forget the kick that sent us to the Super Bowl. NFL Network rated it the #1 play of our season in their Top 10 list.

Sure, many other players have done more impressive things (Reggie's runs against the Cards, Meach's strip 'n' run against the Skins), but the circumstances of the kick put him in the spotlight.

Think about it, David Tyree was hardly one of the Giants' best players, but when I think of the 2007 season the biggest thing that pops out in my mind is his helmet-catch

for a kicker they were fairly ordinary plays

I am sure the Chargers would like a kicker who didn't miss FGs in the playoffs.

Probably contractual stuff. "X" signatures and stay for "X" amount of time. It's a promo for the store, so if they want they can either pay the man for his time or have some unhappy customers. Sucks for the "celeb" b/c they get a bad rap, but if they don't set parameters, they'll get taken advantage of and the store will make a killing off of people buying stuff for him to sign w/o any $ to him.
