Agreed. Not all first round pick slots are the same. Not all drafts are the same.

The saints had to guess what their needs might be next year, who might be available, how strong is the draft at those positions?

They have to look at their needs this year, who might be there at 27, and can they get similar value later?

Free agency and urgency to win is a factor.

For example, let’s assume we get Davenport and Fumagalli, then sign a nice free agent next season. Is that theoretically not better than Godert, Key, and a late first next year?
