re: Guaranteed money could be the sticking point on a Drew Brees deal

Both parties are rolling the dice, Brees could get injured and lose out on any kinda meaningful money... One bad hit and he could be shelved, and there goes his value. Saints would win with no dead money. (but no one wants that to happen) But it could. On the other hand Brees could have a Pro-Bowl year and be in demand. Houston (New Orleans has a Problem)
I think its in the interest of both sides to meet somewhere in the middle. Come on , this needs to get done. Brees needs some security and so do the Saints.

Come on Drew. You have 3 years left to cement your legacy of being a multiple SB champion. frick, I don't understand why he doesn't take a team friendly deal that gives a better shot at winning another one.
Saints won't be smelling a superbowl anytime soon

You making it up was never a stretch. Your numbers were.

Give it to him

He was on a team friendly deal when he got here. Given what he's done, he deserves to be paid at the end of his career. This situation is atypical because he was underpaid for a big part of his prime.

He was a risk at the time, not underpaid. That was his worth.

His production over that time period far outstripped his salary. He was underpaid, plain and simple.

Where did you get those cap projection numbers?

4 years is a gamble but 24-25 a year now vs what he could earn next offseason would cripple the franchise whether he stays or goes if he plays near his expected level.
The gamble of not signing Drew favors only Drew IMO. Having to tag him(won't happen) or match every offer he recieves from every QB desperate team will drive that asking price somewhere stupid.
Philly, Dallas, Mia, Buff, NYJ, Cle, Min, Den, Ari, LA, SF, Hou would all have a genuine level of interest in signing him.

Yep. And it isn't the worst thing if we suck the year he retires. Push that cap hit imo.
