According to Tankathon, our draft pick is #9 as of now. We were #5 last week, so a couple more wins, we should be able to accomplish our goal of not giving the Eagles a top 10 pick.

Would definitely soften the blow. I also wouldn’t mind making it to the 2nd round and knocking the eagles off. We would be even then

The battle to 9 wins is real. A win against baltimore will be huge.
Wins against Tampa, atL, and Carolina are pretty much a must.
Need to then pull a maybe 2-3 wins from Pitt, SF, Rams, Browns and Eagles.

6 more wins are realistic.
The 3 division games are realistic
Pittsburgh and LA rams are realistic.
Cleveland And Baltimore are coin tosses.
Philly and San Fran you should be an underdog.

if we manage 9-10 wins, and thats very doable, it could be a late teen pick like we usually get
its a shame it gets to this that we have to cringe at what we might have thrown away for a guy we didnt need to reach so far to go get. sure we wouldnt have got him, but we still would have other great options for a WR without making a trade to move up

Olave is worth trading away the 2023 1st rounder as long as it is not top 12.
He is so damn good already.

This Saints team can definitely win 7 or 8 games this season.
That should guarantee a non-Top 10 pick for Philly

Just to be clear you realize we didn’t throw away a first round pick on Olave right? We drafted him with a first round pick, there’s a difference. We traded our 2023 pick to the eagles for their 2022 pick.
So we just drafted Olave this year and not next year. What was “thrown away” were the late round picks we traded to facilitate the trade.

Honest question, what options? Michael Thomas is not getting off the bench, he doesn't want to play to help the team climb out of the hole we are in but once the division is in sight he will make a miraculously recover

Another great thing is if we win the division, the pick will be no better than #19, regardless of what we do in the playoffs, which would be pretty cool considering one of the picks we got from the Eagles for the 2023 pick was the 19th pick this year.

The way the OL has played as of late, don't expect Penning to get any reps unless Peat or Hurst get hurt as well. Good problem to have I guess.

lots of great WR were there if we held our position and took the BPA at WR
im not saying they would in any way be as good as olave, but there was a lot of great WR talent in last years draft. there was no need to move up like that with the needs we had everywhere.
in hindsight, had we started the season with dalton knowing he was the answer at QB, i would feel different, but we gave up picks we needed to move up to get a great WR and it was known at the time that we had no decent QB here to throw to him. thats not how you improve a team.

If we held, these were the guys available
Treylon Burks (Tennessee) - 1st, 18th
Christian Watson (GB) - 2nd, 2nd
Wan'Dale Robinson (NYG) - 2nd, 11th
John Metchie III (Houston) - 2nd, 12th
All 4 combined have put up: 30 receptions, 300 yrds, 1 TD while Olave has 37 receptions, 547 yards, 2 TDs
While I still think giving up what we did for Olave was a lot (I'm not a fan of taking WRs top 10 overall), the realistic thought would be...should we have just skipped the philly trade (getting another 1st round) and just trade for 11th overall with Washington.
We gave up 16th (1st), 98th (3rd), and 120th (4th) for 11th. We had 18th. They took Dotson with 16th.
Skip the philly trade:
18th (1st), 98th (3rd), 101st (3rd) for 11th gets it done.
We'd still have: 2023 1st, 2024 2nd, and 2022 4th. The 4th round pick could have been used to take Romeo Doubs (WR), Bailey Zappe (QB).
Essentially we gave up 1st, 2nd, and 4th for Penning. Idk if its worth it unless he's a DAMN good LT.

well its not a fair way to judge, because those teams are not putting their pick out there as the #2 and then #1 WR being targeted on the team?
thats when the stats fail you when trying to compare things, all team situations are very different.
there were lots of other ways we could have gone, but we took the desperation sell your soul for a top WR to pair with MT to win it all now move.
its as if the FO was thinking brees was still here looking for one last SB run, when at the time we really had no #1 QB to put on the field

Yep. I have no playoff expectations this year at this point but I'd like to play ourselves away from getting shite about this trade for years.

still have the 2nd rounder in 2024 gone too, have to play that one down all the way as well.

To be fair, Burks was thrown out there as the #1/2 wr. Watson and Robinson were both open opportunities but they suck. Metchie is hurt.
