I hope no ill will towards him for what he said, but I also don't really think he has a point, honestly.
A lot of guys have said they don't even listen to pregame speeches. It's a huge playoff game in an insanely barbaric sport.
You really think there was any remote chance that even one player would say in that locker room and moment, something negative about the Williams speech?
that is completely unrealistic imo.

In the NFL when a player takes the field they HAVE TO have a mindset they are going to war! I don't care how tame you want the game to be - all your tolerance and diversity training is out the window in a pre game mindset. This goes for Coaches, too. This stuff never should have gotten out of the closed doors it was in. THIS is the result of some Politically Correct bullshite that infiltrated and double crossed a group of men preparing for battle.
I feel quite confident if every locker room were mic'd up you'd find things worse off than was heard in the Saints locker room.
This crap makes me ill. Seek and Destroy is the only mentality you can have when taking the field - otherwise YOU are the victim. Choose
These players are professional and knew exactly how they were trained to play when crossing the white line. If they were so guilty of so many infractions then where is all the video evidence of so many players making cheap shots? Out of 32 teams between the years of 2009-2011 the Saints ranked 31st in the number of opponent injuries!!! How does the math add up that we were so injury-intent oriented?
I'm sick of the falsity of this entire ordeal and as we see the start of the season drawing near - nothing has improved. No Vilma, Lofton hurt, Hawthorne hurt, Chamberalin out for year already! I sure hope Ruud has his most bad arse days still left in his tank.

If this interview is recent...Gleason should have kept his mouth shut. Now imo, he is just saying shite to stay in the news. If he was a saint he wouldnt be opening this shite up again.
Why the frick would he go into this shite again? Makes me wonder if he really didn't know that tape would get released

Yeah, that certainly is your opinion.

If he was still a Saint the documentary wouldn't have been getting filmed in the 1st place.

Do people not have an idea how interviews work?

He's not opening up anything new. Who gives a shite?

Totally not what I was meaning. I'm fully aware he is no longer a saint. Literally or at heart I guess. I find it hard to believe he never heard a speech like that in his years of playing ball.

He is too! This story was fricking DEAD as long ago as 2 months - the last time that douche Pamphillon re-emerged on PFT and WIST and shite. There was a 5-page thread on here and a 20-page thread on SR about what an attention whore Pamphillon was for doing that. This is arguably worse IMO seeing as it's way later and Steve is talking about former teammates and an organization that just honored him with a virtually unprecedented statue.

Outside of completely denying it placing blame on Williams is the best thing for the Saints.

He should be keeping away from these types of interviews. This was nearly dead. Not any longer, they will run with this shite all week

what did you learn that is new to you? It hasn't even aired yet. Certainly nothing in that small paragraph is new

I guarantee the purpose of the piece was to talk about ALS. Dude has a fricking death sentence doubt he weighed an incredibly minor hit of bad PR for the Saints over telling his story.

Looks like he was misquoted in order to fit someone's agenda. I know, surprising.

The bolded part dovetails with what I said earlier in this thread, FWIW.

Gleason says in his email that his actual words were, “The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.” Obviously, this would dramatically narrow the breadth of the response, exempting Saints players and coaches and other team employees who were in the room.
Though it’s not our desire or role to defend HBO, the network’s characterization seems reasonable in light of the context. Gleason was responding specifically to this: “Was there any discussion afterward when the meeting was over and those players saw you, did anybody say, ‘Wow, that was kind of tough Steve, I’m sorry you had to hear that.’?”
And then after Gleason’s response the question was, “Nobody seemed shocked to hear that come out of the coaches mouth?”
Said Gleason: “No, there was no discussion of, ‘Wow, did we just hear that?”
That said, listening to the words that Gleason uttered without reading the subtitles, it appears that he said, “The group I was with . . . no one seemed shocked.”
With the show debuting later tonight, this is something that HBO and Gleason need to get worked out.
Gleason also adds in his email this observation regarding the Williams speech: “In my opinion, speeches like the one given by Gregg Williams are not the cause of increased rate of brain disease in the NFL population. The increased rate of brain disease In the NFL population is caused by the way the game is played within the rules.”
That may be a more significant comment than anything Gleason told HBO on camera.

This. Players who claim ignorance on this bother the crap out of me. It should NOT be shocking that players get brain injuries after having numerous collisions with enormous people who are moving at high rates of speed. NFL didn't deceive anyone. Its freaking common sense. If people are involved in multiple collisions that are basically the same as being in a car wreck, they will have a lingering issues that are result of the collision.
These concussion lawsuits are just a $$ grab by ex-players.

Great, so instead of taking shoddy evidence and unintentionally hurting the Saints, Steve was only taking shoddy evidence and intentionally trying to ruin the entire sport of football - literally my third favorite thing in the world.
That makes it way better
