She has also been spending like a drunken sailor to put her name on everything and to hide child rapists while neglecting parts of the Benson companies. She had to finance the settlement with the heirs to replace the team shares in the trust. Hundreds of millions were borrowed that now need to be refinanced because they did it short term when they reached the settlement.. They are treating Tom's empire like the salary cap and it will be worse when the piper must be paid. The teams are wortth billions but her net and cashflow are not what people think they are.

No one who has any brain cells left believes that she doesn't have the money. I was obviously joking in the pels talk thread.
She bought the Pels for 300 million, they are now worth 2.5 billion, and with the new NBA deals, they will go up to 5 billion by the end of that.
This is about politics.
They are negotiating a lease.
The last payment was in December.
Jeff Landry replaced every member of the LSED board except 1 back in January.

And some rich people lose everything when they are a dilettante out of their depth. Patricia Kluge was just like Gayle in that she snared her billionaire. She then lost everything. Jocelyn Wildenstein got over three billion in cash from her husband and a shaky business took it all.

Obviously I have no idea about Gayle Benson’s individual situation but most of the wealth of people like her is in the value of assets not necessarily cash. Which is not to say she has no cash on hand or no access to it but its doubtful she can make any and all debt payments with “loose change”.

NFL has a liquidity requirement for all of their owners. So, while her sofa cushions are not filed with C-notes, she does need to have a significant amount of money readily available. Of course, it's all-in interest-bearing accounts that her team will not access until the last possible second, but it has to exist, or we'd be hearing reports from the leagues
