Just something I’ve been thinking about lately. Would love to hear what y’all think about it.

Tom and Gayle are both New Orleans natives. Presumably/hopefully they both have/had an affinity to their hometown and its people.

We know that Gayle has assigned Dennis Lauscha to find the next owner upon her passing. She’s not handing it down to relatives or friends or anyone.

So what I find interesting is what are Gayle’s relatively short term goals for the Saints and the Pelicans?

These teams are investments for the super rich. Does she want to maximize profit in the short term? Is there any love for the city or legacy establishment in play?

What do y’all think?

Ya, it might be. But there ain’t a bigger Saints fan than me. I just think it’s interesting. Just like pondering who the final 53 will be is interesting.

I think she’s invested in both teams trying to win championships and build her own legacy and also win for the city/state. I don’t think she’s “profit” driven at all.

I don’t think she considers the rest of her life “the short term”

Well, I think that is naive/“stupid” of you.

Embarrassing for you as a “man”, honestly.

She probably doesn’t.

But if you don’t think she’s thought about it when she’s already publicly declared the succession plan, well then god bless.

Honestly, this fan base is full of autistic monkeys.

Not sure you really follow either team if you have to ask what the goals are. She clearly is making available whatever resources are needed to both franchises so win. Which obviously would mean she isn’t cutting corners to max out profits.

I've been told...and you take this for as much as you think its worth. Both teams will compete while remaining "self-sustaining".

Essentially, she ain't dumping no more coin in than it self generates.

She has enough money to live lavishly without profiting from either team and those teams provide more than enough to cover the salary cap, top tier coaches and executive staff.

As for the succession plan, she has one and it’s for the teams to remain in New Orleans. If she had her way, the NFL doesn’t allow it, the teams would be left to the archdiocese with lauscher and or a selected group to manage them.

She has nothing to gain from profiting on a sale. She doesn’t need the money a sale would generate.

Well, the Saints make a ton of money and seem to get everything they need. The Pelicans don't make nearly as much money but also seem to get everything they need.

Neither organization is run on the cheap.

I wish the league would allow her to sell shares of stock like Green Bay.

For the local fans to own the Saints to insure that they never move.

Then she could donate some or all of the money to the church.

WRONG. A 30 second search would have allowed you to be correct on this statement. Unfortunately, it was too much time for you:

Benson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Thomas Benson, Sr. and Carmen Benson. Tom Benson was born on July 12, 1927, the same year as the great flood of Louisiana before the Great Depression. His parents had four sons. They raised the boys in the St. Roch neighborhood, their lives rooted in the Catholic Church as parishioners at Our Lady Star of the Sea. He served in the U.S. Navy and then graduated with an accounting degree at Loyola University New Orleans in 1948. After school he worked as a car salesman at Cathey Chevrolet in New Orleans.

I think actions speak louder than rando fans meandering queries.

What has she done to make you doubt?

Wrong. Born in New Orleans, graduated from St. Aloysius and Loyola.

They don’t actually own any part of the team. It’s a piece of paper and a few meetings a year to make them feel important

In reality that may be more the 'operating system' in Green Bay...however, the FACT that the team is'owned' by mostly Wisconsin residents, that means it will NEVER, be held hostage by a greedy owner looking to leverage his power in one way or another....it would be nice if there were many more such 'ownership' arrangements in the NFL and other professional leagues !
