re: Free Agency thoughts and feelings to Jermon Bushrod this year

I think both our tackles are garbage.
Bushrod gets worked by any decent pass rusher. A ton of false starts.
If Drew Brees didn't have the best footwork and possibly the best pocket presence in football he would be on his back a lot more often.

I'd really love if we could draft/pickup someone to play LT and slide Bushrod over to RT. We'd get rid of Strief and improve both Tackle positions at the same time. But no way this is happening

As do most LT's. That's why the guys are considered elite.
Jermon loves the Saints, but would love to be closer to home with his new baby.
I tell his family to get him to the Saints, but they'd rather he play for the Skins. He really loves his hometown of King George. he runs clinics and has a golf tournament there during the offseason.
If the Skins come calling, he gone.
just my 2 cents. I don't know him personally, but my wife knows his family really well.

If any big-name player or a decent cemented player wanted to leave a team to be closer to their family, I honestly wouldn't mind it, especially if that's his wife..dude I wouldn't mind it. LOL. He's a big part of our protection and line, but if washington came calling for him goodbye and thanks for the years of cheap help!

I don't think we can keep him. We're over the cap as it is and we have to sign Graham too, right? I'm pretty sure someone is going to overpay for Bushrod.

You keep him; he will be one of the best on the market being that it won't be a strong position in FA. He has been with the team for some time, he is more than serviceable, and keeping continuity on an offense/offensive line is very important.
I don't think he is top shelf at his position, so he shouldn't demand a ridiculous amount. However, he is above average, and keeping the pieces together of what has made this offensive one of the greatest of all time is important. You sign him. And, I actually think Strief should stay as well. He knows the system.
Draft someone in a later round for depth, or maybe pick up someone cheap in FA. The draft should be focused on getting defensive talent, what this team is missing. If we get rid of a offensive linemen that knows the system and is a decent/good player for his position, than we'd more than likely have to spend a draft pick on OL, which is less needed than a pass rusher.
Offense is the teams strongest point, by far. If it isn't broke, don't try to fix it. Let's get defensive picks, and a few pieces to make the team better. I trust the Front Office and Loomis to do just that, while balancing the check book.

I sure hope not. We really need to try and keep him. The market might frick us though.

go info Roaad. More often than we prolly we ever know there are decisions made by both players and front office that have factors not in the press.
The Saints are now cited by free agents and players that have left as a place you definitely want to play at. That is, how the organization is run and the locker room camaraderie.
Most have said we want Bushrod back BUT at the right price. Knowing that price, making it happen capwise, and understanding the free agent and draft markets all play into whether it happens or not. That is where we can have confidence in the front office. The bang for the buck principle in team building was beautifully illustrated at guard- Nicks 5ys/$48mil or Grubbs 5yrs/$36.

HERE is the PFF ranking of free agent OTs for 2012. I'm guessing few fans know how good Branden Albert is stranded in KC. Bushrod having a better year than Jake Long is another thing most wouldn't get.

Nice shopping list this year Blu.

I hope we get Bushrod cheap, and get a RT worth a shite.
The Saints with a decent line is a nightmare for all of our opponents.

He's average at best, if he wants good money, let him bail. Payton can find another diamond in the rough in the draft, or sign one of the top 10 OT in FA. Its not really a Loomis deal as much as it is a Payton problem.
