Offensive minded coach. He's going to get the offense sorted first. He's not planning to win the SB next year. He's getting the kinks worked out on offense then worry about the defense.

Stack young guys at skilled positions and use the $ in the trenches. Bye Olave.
Y’all are fricking retarded. Olave is a young receiver. He’s three years younger than Vele.

This will prove to be one of the worst Saints draft classes ever. Who TF drafts 3 of the same position? This is about as bad as Ditka trading the entire draft away. Mind numbingly stupid!

Are you aware our WR corp was garbage before the draft, arguably worst in the league, and that up to 5 WRs can be on the field at once?

He's a guy I would expect to get targeted 6-8 times a game as a safety net, that provides a legit dangerous option at the TE spot, that maybe we can rely on.
So you expect Delp to catch 75-80 passes? That would be amazing value for a 3rd round TE that can also block.

We saw how often Juwan Johnson was targeted late in the year... you put some good WRs out there to draw attention, and it opens the TE up. You get a capable TE and he becomes the default 2nd choice on most passing plays, cuz he will likely be open.

Delp in his prime might get 60-80 a year.
Year 1, I expect 40 to be his ceiling. That's if his receiving skills is that good. There's too many solid mouths to feed right now and he's still got 20# to add IMHO

If you include the 4th we used for Vele this draft, the OP is right.
Picks from this draft were used on 4 receivers and one te.

quote:That's what I'm saying. If he's as good as what we think, then I think he becomes a focal point. Some plays he's the primary target, but a lot of plays I think he's the first alternate because they would a)expect him to be open, and b) expect him to catch when thrown to. Like I said, it seemed like the scheme found the TE a lot last year when things were clicking, and I don't think the TE was at the level the coaches want him to be.

I think it will take a couple years for this offense to mature; not just Delp, but incorporating Tyson too. You obviously want to look for Tyson and Olave, and Etienne too.
I think if you feed Delp in this way, it helps pull coverage off the WRs some and open them up too.
Sorry if my reply posts are late, I'm kinda paying attention to other things right now. Sucks that we have crazy news on a day where we all just want to focus on what the Saints are doing.
