For those against giving up multiple 1st round picks for a qb

Here’s a list of all our 1st round picks under sean. You can argue that maybe 5 out of the 16 was worth the pick.
I don’t care if Green Bay want our next 5 firsts, I’m doing it.
Edit: add Peyton turner to this list who’s been on the field less than 15% of the year

I've argued it many times, but nothing matters if you don't have a QB.
You do whatever it takes to get one. Draft, FA, whatever.
Get a QB, give up what it takes, worry about the rest later.

i'd love to know who the frick leaked to the chiefs the saints were going to draft Mahomes
Posted on 12/28/21 at 8:57 am to geauxtigers87
The saints werent going to draft him unless lattimore went the pick before. Payton said the way their board fell they had lattimore then mahomes.

Yeah knowing that stings, lattimore is a great consolation prize.

holes and cap hell is a bad recipe for giving up picks for a qb. that's the part that stings more. not saying its not the correct decision still.

You have to start from when they brought Ireland in. Almost every pick they got since Ireland came in has been a good starter.
The question is whether Russell Wilson is worth 2 possibly elite first rounders and really good second rounders? And then if you feel he is worth all of that is he that much better than Winston.
With us having very little cap space those first and second rounders are huge.

Now here is every first round QB taken by every team since 1999.
Bears: Mitchell Trubisky (2017); Rex Grossman (2003); Cade McNown (1999)
Bengals: Joe Burrow (2020); Carson Palmer (2003); Akili Smith (1999)
Bills: Josh Allen (2018); EJ Manuel (2013); J.P. Losman (2004)
Broncos: Paxton Lynch (2016); Tim Tebow (2010); Jay Cutler (2006)
Browns: Baker Mayfield (2018); Johnny Manziel (2014); Brandon Weeden (2012); Brady Quinn (2007); Tim Couch (1999)
Buccaneers: Jameis Winston (2015); Josh Freeman (2009)
Colts: Andrew Luck (2012)
Cardinals: Kyler Murray (2019); Josh Rosen (2018); Matt Leinart (2006)
Chargers: Justin Herbert (2020); Eli Manning (2004)
Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes (2017)
Cowboys:
Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa (2020); Ryan Tannehill (2012)
Eagles: Carson Wentz (2016)
Falcons: Matt Ryan (2008); Michael Vick (2001)
49ers: Alex Smith (2005)
Giants: Daniel Jones (2019); Philip Rivers (2004)
Jaguars: Blake Bortles (2013); Blaine Gabbert (2011); Byron Leftwich (2003).
Jets: Sam Darnold (2018); Mark Sanchez (2009); Chad Pennington (2000)
Lions: Matthew Stafford (2009); Joey Harrington (2002)
Packers: Jordan Love (2020); Aaron Rodgers (2005)
Panthers: Cam Newton (2011)
Patriots:
Raiders: JaMarcus Russell (2007)
Rams: Jared Goff (2016); Sam Bradford (2010)
Ravens: Lamar Jackson (2018); Joe Flacco (2008); Kyle Boller (2003)
Saints:
Seahawks:
Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger (2004)
Texans: Deshaun Watson (2017); David Carr (2002)
Titans: Marcus Mariota (2015); Jake Locker (2011); Vince Young (2006)
Vikings:Teddy Bridgewater (2014); Christian Ponder (2011)
Washington (five): Dwayne Haskins (2019); Robert Griffin III (2012); Jason Campbell (2005); Patrick Ramsey (2002)
Do do you want to give up Rankins for Paxton Lynch? Or Cam Jordan for Christian Ponder? Or Davenport for Josh Rosen? You want to trade multiple 1st round picks when we had Drew Brees on the roster?
Drew Brees was a 2nd round pick. Russell Wilson was a 3rd. Brady was a 6th.
The Saints, Broncos, Buccaneers (x2), Rams and Ravens all won a super bowl in that same time period with QBs they did not draft.
Your post is in a vacuum and needs more thought.

I agree with this too.
Winston was a really good pick up for us without having to trade a bunch of 1st rounders.
1st round QBs and WRs are such a crap shoot IMO.

Saints fans: We should have traded up to draft a top end QB 4 years ago, We knew Drew wouldn't have much in the tank.
Also Saints fans: We need to trade our next 5 first round draft picks for a guy the same age Brees was when we should have drafted a QB.

Or you can just read and realize I’m not saying we should’ve drafted a qb, I’m saying we should give up multiple first round picks for Rodgers or Wilson AT THIS MOMENT

I'm interested in how you build the roster after making this trade. Aren't we 50 million over the cap right now for next season?

We have a championship ready defense, an all pro rb, and all pro wr. Why wouldn’t you want to trade for a qb dipshit

Cap is supposed to go up an astronomical number next year
Posted on 12/28/21 at 10:02 am to Louisianabound88
we are currently over 60 million the projected 209 team salary cap space next year. We're in a shite hole.

How about trading for or drafting a good QB instead?
Nothing matters if you don't have a QB. If you don't have a QB, you do everything you can every year to get one until you have one.

payton's track record of drafted qb's makes me want to puke. not sure i trust payton much.

Much rather a proven QB than drafting one unless it’s a #1 overall type of talent.
Absolutely package a first or two and whatever it takes for a Wilson or Rodgers.

If Pickett is falling I would move up to get him. I think he would do well in CSP's offense.
Other than that I would try and trade for a vet.

Same fans act like we have done nothing but suck like the giants these last few years.
Four straight Div titles and most wins in nfl last 4 or 5 years I think.
It looked to me like CSP decided before the season began to go with a dependable, ploding no TO offence and rely on the strength of the team in the defence. Don't be surprised if he goes that way again and tries to improve the defence even more and sticks to a vet QB who can manage a conservative approach.
