I remember hearing Bobby Hebert talk about aging as a QB. He said near the end of his career he could make every read and knew every defense he saw. He just couldn’t get the ball there anymore lol

This isn’t even close to being true. Has Drew lost something? Yes. But he’s proven he can put one on the money when he needs to and he has the tools to put 34 up on Carolina. That’s 30+ points in 3 out of the last 4 games he’s been back. That’s good enough to win the majority of your games in this league.

His arm and legs are probably fresher than in recent seasons due to the time off. His fading arm strength is most evident on the longer sideline throws but his football intellect has never been better. I think he has another good season in him...

This a perfect example of not understanding route concepts, coverages & offensive game planning.

There's so much more value to hitting deep passes or even just having the consistent threat of hitting the deep pass in terms being able to control safeties or put them in no win situations.

Without the fear of getting beat deep, defenses can play their safeties closer up, making windows for the intermediate throws tighter. We see this happen a good bit on 3rd downs where Brees has trouble finding an open receiver.

Once, you hit one deep pass for a chunk play or TD, it forces the safety/safeties to stay deeper than the deepest route depending upon the exact coverage. It makes it easier to run underneath routes under those deeper clearing routes which in return makes it easier to get chunk pass plays.

Brees had no choice but to try to take deep shots in the 2nd half because Carolina adjusted their coverages after the 1st quarter. It's why Ginn was able to get behind their secondary 3 times & be wide arse open 2 out of 3 of those opportunities.

Payton/Brees has been able to have the Saints passing offense at the top league every year because the passing game has thrived off of these concepts & specific week to week game plans.

The Saints offense is still a good offense & scoring 30+ is not easy to do but they are not great or unstoppable like we've seen some of the previous Saints offenses because of things I mentioned above.

His thumb is still not 100% and that does have an effect on his arm strength throwing the ball. He is still doing therapy and will continue probably into the off season. It is showing that it’s getting better each week. He doesn’t really need to throw it more than 40 yards down field anyway to be successful with the way this offense moves the ball.

I don’t doubt that his arm strength has eroded some but there wasn’t a damn thing wrong with that bomb to Ginn except Ginn

Last week against Tampa I was concerned about his arm strength. Today he looked like a different QB, I saw several throws with good zip. Not sure what to make of it besides indoor vs outdoor but still seems excessive. If today’s Drew continues to show up this offense is going to get on a serious roll.

Worst throw I’ve seen Drew make in quite a while

The lack of long plays isn’t all on him. Our ONLY deep threat has hands of stone, no one else in the league would have him starting at WR, much as less as their #2

He may not have the superbowls .......but for my money he’s the greatest qb I’ve ever seen considering all the variables thst go into measuring all-time greats.

He hasn’t played his entire career in the Sun Belt Conference like Brady has either.
