After 20 years in the National Football League, the last 15 with the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Drew Brees's retirement became official Friday via the NFL transactions wire.

Brees was a 15-year team captain and led the Saints to nine playoff appearances, seven division titles, including four consecutive from 2017-2020, and the Super Bowl XLIV championship, where he was named the game's Most Valuable Player. The franchise signal-caller announced he would be retiring from football on March 14

Man I was still holding out hope he wouldn’t be able to go through with it especially with full stadiums being back.

I think this is what bothers me the most. Differences aside entirely, the greatest ambassador for this franchise (and one could argue, the city) deserved a 100% capacity crowd to see him out.

As a 29 year old dude, Katrina displacement, I’m not sure I’ll ever accept that final look in the tunnel without a noise that would’ve made the Dome shake at its foundation.

We knew it was coming, but this sucks on how it happened.

This. I was honestly very surprised he didn’t announce 2021 as his farewell season; going out in a watered-down season doesn’t sit right.

It’s a fitting end to his career and he deserved it.

Give the Woke another $20 Million + for his outstanding performance in his last 2 seasons.

Hope you get rear ended by an all electric Ford F-150 Lightning and you choke on your dip. You fricking Trumptards are scum. At least leave this farewell thread alone.

I’m glad I’m not alone in that thought either. I 100% agree it was time for Drew to hang it up but damn he deserved way better on his way out the door. If the dome was at capacity like it would have it might have been louder than its ever been and I’ve been to the loudest of them all like the Hartley kick to send us to the Super Bowl or Steve Gleason’s blocked punt against the Falcons the first game back in the dome from Katrina.

I appreciated his 5 years of excellence followed by a decade of mediocre decay and virtue signaling. Oh but that sweet regular season stat padding tho!!!!!!

Know how I know you’ve only been a Saints fan since they’ve been good?

He isn't the first of one of the greats to have his career end on an unfortunate note.

Just seems wrong that a player of this caliber went out with a whimper to a season of empty stadiums

Yep it doesn’t make sense. Say “2021 is my last year” and just let it rip in front of full crowds
