Drew Brees: If Taysom Hill taking 30 snaps helps us win, I’m all for it

Saints quarterback Drew Brees hasn’t decided if he’s playing or retiring in 2020, and no one knows if restricted free agent Taysom Hill will remain in New Orleans. But if Brees and Hill are both Saints this year, Brees will be happy to share the workload.

quote:

Brees said on PFT Live today in Miami that he and Saints coach Sean Payton haven’t specifically discussed what the offense will look like, but Brees knows the Saints love getting Hill involved in the offense, and Brees is fine with that even if it means he’s less involved.

quote:

“We haven’t gotten that far but I’ll be the first one to sit here and tell you, if I’m back and Taysom is there alongside me, call the plays that are going to put us in the best position to win. And if that means Taysom Hill is taking 30 snaps a game, 25 snaps a game, so be it. I’m all for that,” Brees said.

quote:

Brees praised Hill for the way he played in the Saints’ postseason game, saying, “The guy pretty much took the game over.” And Brees said he knows everyone in the locker room wants Hill on the team because “Guys on the team love him.”

quote:

So don’t be surprised if both Brees and Hill play for the Saints next year, and if they run a two-quarterback offense that makes the most of the skill sets of both Brees and Hill.

More like 1000/1000 if we’re being accurate.

You would be completely wrong. Taysom hill has brought an incredible amount of value to this team.

Nah. But keep pimping a gadget player in the hopes we can get something valuable for him. We know CSP is.

cute.

if you firmly believe that as true, the only inarguable stance you can make is Taysom won't be on the roster come next year. If you take a 1st 10000/10000 times, then you damn well might as well take the 2nd too.

I guess drew is just lying his arse off too talking about taking playing time away from him. I had the post few days ago about drew knowing taysom is behind him now on depth chart ready to steam roll him.

We’d take either a 1 or 2 but we know damn well nobody is giving that up for him. He’s unproven as a qb and he’s too old to give up legit capital as a jack of all trades kinda guy. He’s a part time player to boot.

Good point. It’s exceedingly rare for Drew to be complimentary of his teammates and give safe answers. This is extremely out of character for him...And by out of character I mean completely in character for pretty much any guy he’s ever played with here. This is the equivalent of coach speak and nothing more. I’m sure he’d love to get paid another 25-30m and take less snaps at 42.

There may be some truth to Brees coming back for a bridge year. Saints sell him on being a game manager, with Taysom taking over 20% of the snaps. Keeps Brees fresh and gives him less wear and tear.

Triplett basically laid this exact scenario out a few days ago so that must be what the Saints are selling to Drew and Taysom

It is almost as if ST has no concept of Payton as offensive-minded coach.

After seeing how San Francisco flummoxed defenses with all that pre-snap motion, you would have to think ( admittedly, this excuses 99.9% of ST posters) about how Payton is imagining a two-QB system and the wrinkles he could add.

Had to say which board has less knowledge; here or the Rant.

You’re equating presnap motion with employing a QB timeshare as an offensive philosophy

Hill got 36 snaps at QB last season. Why didn’t SP implement such wrinkles?

It’s like you people have no idea of what it costs to acquire a first round pick. To think SP wouldn’t let Hill walk for a tendered 1st is about as ludicrous as a thing you’ll see here

And If you polled this board I’d say 97% would want Hill back with Brees. There’s prob a 3% thank thinks Hill can start on his own

You’re absolutely right but his value has nothing to do with his QB play.

No it doesn’t. You’re letting all his great runs, all the blocked punts and fake punts and incredible catches completely blind you. The dude has horrible mechanics and when forced to beat you with his arm, he’s not going to be able to do it. We’d have to be in shotgun 95% of the time because he looks like a newborn baby deer taking snaps from under center and taking drop backs.

He doesn’t have Lamar Jackson level agility and takes too many shots. Hill loves contact, doesn’t like going down on the first hit and doesn’t like going out of bounds, those mentalities don’t gel with playing a running style QB in the NFL. He’s about to be 30 so you’re going to get his speed and legs for maybe 3-4 more years max? And then he’ll have to sit in the pocket like everyone else and throw that terrible side armed shite he currently throws. He’s not gotten any better as a passer since he’s been in the league. Mechanics are exactly the same. I’m all for letting him play one year just so we can get a top 3 pick but anyone who thinks Hill is leading this team to a SB is legitimately a retard

Just look at his throw in the playoff game. Just an absolute floater that somehow made its way in between two defenders.

And that’s the guy you want taking all the snaps?

volume of words typed does not make anything you are speaking to be true. Payton has let Taysom drop back and make NFL passes and his development during the season has been incredible. He throw a back shoulder bullet on the sideline to thomas, threw MT his single season tying catch (going through progressions), his "soft 50 yard throw"... ... he only timed his look to Deonte a half a second late. Drew wasn't throwing that ball an inch further.

C'mon man. Hill has a terrible throwing form. the best thing about him, his athleticism, is about to start the decline. You just refuse to listen to reason. The dude will never throw for 3,000 yards and will never lead us to the super bowl.

There's your less volume
