I read Drew Brees grandfather and mentor Ray Akins passed away at the age of 93. He was a legendary Texas HS coach who won 12 straight district titles and has a stadium named after him. Obviously a strong influence on Drew and a great man. Join me, Who Dat Nation, in offering thoughts and prayers to Drew and his entire family this sad day. RIP Mr. Akins.

Sad deal I read an article about him a few years back...That man was a legend in Texas football and that is a big pool to swim in to be that recognized with so many great coaches in that state.

RIP Coach Akins.

Have to think Mr Atkins was really proud of his grandson. Drew seems to be a model family man, and of course the best thing that happened to Saints football since John Gilliam's touchdown return in Tulane stadium.
