re: Don't understand the freaking out over the Rams loss

This loss is on Payton.
Payton did a bad job (the TO before the half, kicking a FG late from the Rams's ~4 yard line, etc...), but the loss is mostly on Drew. His stats don't look too bad, but it was his worst game of the season IMO. Multiple underthrows that were nearly intercepted, including the REALLY bad one that Ginn would have scored on. Held the ball too long on the Donald sack vs. Peat. I still don't think arm strength is an issue for him on his deep balls, though. I still find that, if he's missing deep, he's been overthrowing more often than underthrowing.

I'll go 70/30 Payton. Game plan was a problem.

Payton outcoached himself. He got cute. Thinks the Rams are defending run, so I'll pass. Stupid. You have a great OLine, two of the hottest RBs in the league and you get Drew clobbered because the WRs aren't separating. Should have run more early. Horrible game plan.
I've always said that's his problem. There are some games where he runs Josh Hill on a reverse on 4th and 1 because "they'll never see that coming!" and they lose. Or have Reggie Bush pitch out to Devery Henderson on a reverse. Or running the stupidest fake punt ever against the Cowboys. Or that trick play on the final play of the Seahawks playoff game. He spends too much time trying to show everybody how smart he is and forgets the superiority of his personnel on the field.

Drew was rattled all day. Constantly missing on throws that we know he can still make.

Overall, there were two things very alarming to me if we play without those guys going forward.
1. We don't tackle worth a shite in space.
2. HFA and probably the bye are dead.

All I heard going in was how the Rams struggle against the run, and we come out the first drive all passes, drew getting clobbered on two of the plays. Had a feeling it would be one of those days.

These quotes were my exact thoughts. Payton has these games sometimes where he is stubborn as hell and is gonna do things how he wants to do them, even if it’s clearly not working. For someone considered a good coach, this happens quite often where he blatantly costs the team a game purely from his ego.

And the Rams aren't a scrub team:
-top-notch offense led by potential MVP Goff and Gurley
-Wade Phillips-coordinated defense, Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn, Connor Barwin, Brockers, etc
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if these teams meet again in the playoffs, revive that great Rams-Saints rivalry only with higher stakes good times

This is bullshite. Cam is excellent, but he has been here for years playing for some of the worst defenses in the history of football. They started the season without Lattimore and looked like same old embarrassing defense.
Lattimore shows up and immediately changes them into a top 10 defense. Then he goes out early against the Redskins and look what happens these last 2 games. By the way, Cam was excellent against the Rams and they still got lit up. Cam may be the heart and soul, but Lattimore might legitimately be the most valuable player on the entire team, even more so than Drew.

We played like shite and lost only by 6 to one of the best teams in the league that was on their game. Def not panicking.

I don't wanna seem negative, but there is a chance 10-6 won't make it in the NFC depending on tiebreakers.

I'm gonna freak out if we lose to Scam Newton

The defense was mediocre compared to recent weeks, but people are more frustrated with the offense. They were horrible including Brees. Ingram was horrid, but they kept giving him the ball instead of Kamara on the ground.
That is why I don't care for Ingram. He's so damn up and down it is ridiculous. Get's tackled by wind one game and can't be brought down another.
Offense is what still worries people and that should be a concern.

but this should have been a win, even without Latt and Crawley.

I love the kid but this is just not true. He is an elite talent yes, but he is still a rookie. Cam Jordan is much more valuable to the defense than Lattimore
Cam has been on the team how many years in the past? He's been fantastic, and what has it gotten us? An all time shitty defense still.
Lattimore comes in and is the biggest reason IMO that this D all of a sudden was dominant against the pass. Then he's injured and for 2 games, our pass D is immediately pretty shitty again.

You're exactly right.
Which is why we need Lattimore to get back on the field (if healthy, of course).

Don't care about the injury ridden defense giving up a bunch of big pass plays.
I care about Payton's continued stubbornness, for the 2nd week in a row, to not run the fricking ball when its clearly working.

For some reason, the Saints in general tend to match up badly against the Rams. I remember a few years ago in either 2011 or 2013, Chris Long and Robert Quinn always seemed to have their way with our line and would disrupt the hell out of Brees.
Same thing happened yesterday. Brees' passing lanes were obscured more than the fact that he had his receivers covered. The contain on Brees came up the middle with Quinn coming on his blind side.....jam up the middle on passing plays and Brees becomes less effective because he's short.

You’re exactly right. I think Lattimore is the most important player on this team other than Brees. He shuts down one side of the field, limiting opposing qb’s options. Having Crawley on the other side allows Cam Jordan to dominate and get to the qb! I wish we had Okafor as well. shite happens, I guess.

Lots of injuries on defense. And the rams are a legit team. Not a big deal
