But, he was still the best LB on the roster and would have made for a pretty nice LB lineup.

Honestly, i kept having difficult grasping how Vilma, Lofton, Hawthorne, Wilson, Claiborne and Shanle were all going to fit in the pizza pie.

I'm guessing you mean Chamberlain.....

I don't know either, but it would be fun finding out.

its funny hearing all the talking heads mention how we brought all these LB's in because the Saints were bracing for Vilma's punishment. Really? LB has been a weak spot on this team for years. Lazy reporting, journalism.

that was a major part in it. Combination of Vilma's potential suspension and his play on the field. At least the signing of Lofton

Does the 16 games include the playoffs? I am guessing yes but I don't know how that works.

Saints board will get some action today.

Damn! I checked this thread this morning, did some work and came back to see if anything new happen and it looks like the board has been spammed with a bunch of posters random thoughts and ideas.

What does that mean? Only two players on the current roster are lost. Vilma for the year, which we signed three very capable LB's in the offseason, and Will Smith (4 games), a pretty overrated DE who is inconsequential on most passing plays.

Oh no.

I got in an argument with my MIL and SIL over Goodell (they live in NOLA) and I just don't get all the redass going around over this. He has to make an example here. And it's not so much what was done, it's what was planned, how it looks in today's NFL and the fact that the Saints were allegedly warned about it several times and maintained the bounty program.

I hate that it's the Saints. But oh fricking well, you got caught.

ETA: I didn't mean to go off on you, bro. I just needed to get that out.

What sucks is all of the crap we're going to have to listen to in pre-game-post-game-in-game just jacking their freaking jaws constantly. Maybe we should start a drinking game about every time we hear the word "bounty" take a shot, "suspensions" drink a beer?

The fact that none of the players or coaches were even called and told of their suspensions and had to learn about them from outside sources just shows what a petty, vindictive, unprofessional prick Goodell is. I don't care what they did. At least be professional enough and man enough to call them and tell them your decision and why you made it. What a cowardly little wuss.

Well I'm not even a Saints fan but I think it's complete horse shite and not sure of what kind of precedent it's setting. Is it discouraging something that's been going on for decades? I mean the negative publicity the Saints got as a franchise and losing their head coach for a season were consequential enough and I think that was MORE than enough to prove a point. None of these guys deserved a suspension, period. And if you have to hand something down, 1 game would have been sufficient. Goodell is a fricking idiot. I hate him. The end.

The really lazy reporting and journalism and thinking are those who are toeing the party line by saying that the suspensions aren't for the bounty system, but for the cover up and perpetuation of the bounty system, even after the league stated that the four suspensions are all tied to events that occurred BEFORE the league ordered the team to stop...

Great point.

I think this is all about Roger Goodell still being pissed Favre didn't win the super bowl with the Vikings.

Wasn't Goodell a Vikings fan growing up?
