This picture is hard to tell if the ball is past the goal line or not. His elbow down was my argument for that play not being a fumble. No view to tell if the ball was past the goal line.

Also: the entire ball has to be past the goal line for they play not to be ruled a safety

Well that is wrong. He only needs a small portion out of the end-zone. It is the exact opposite of a TD, same as only the tip needs to get in.

You are reminding me of the people sitting near me at the game, they didn't know the rules either.

This is classic because it is exactly like people that sit around me. So sure of themselves yet completely wrong. You were right in that it is completely opposite of a TD. For a TD, all you need to do is break the plane. But as has been said, for a safety, you have to get the entire ball past the goalline to avoid a safety. No worries on being wrong, just don't be so quick to jump on people.

Think about it this way, when you are going for a first down do you have to get the entire ball across the first down marker? No, just the tip, LOS is at the most forward position of the football. If the ball comes 1" out of the endzone, that is the spot, even if the rest of the ball is in the end-zone.

Yeah, no, the entire ball must be out of the endzone.

Easiest way to think of this is the end zone is not part of the field of play, so how could a ball be placed on part of the end zone to snap?

straight up bear-hugging... that should've been brought back and half the distance to the goal... we had the running pretty much in check (well not becoming gashed) and after the big run all that shite went out the window... And we shouldn't blame the refs??? SMH

That picture is in the OP is nowhere near indisputable. From that angle there is no way you can accurately tell where the ball is. And for anyone who was watching on TV, did the ball actually look like a fumble? Or did it only come out after his arm hit the ground?

The entire football needs to be passed the goal line. You are right, it is the exact opposite of going into the endzone, where only a tip of the football needs to cross the goal line.

Sounds like you don't know the rules. It is opposite of a touchdown, in the fact that the ENTIRE BALL must be beyond the goal line. In a touchdown any portion of the ball breaking the goal line is a touchdown.

Safety
The important factor in a safety is impetus. Two points are scored for the opposing team when the ball is dead on or behind a team’s own goal line if the impetus came from a player on that team.

Examples of Safety:

(a) Blocked punt goes out of kicking team’s end zone. Impetus was provided by punting team. The block only changes direction of ball, not impetus.
(b) Ball carrier retreats from field of play into his own end zone and is downed. Ball carrier provides impetus.
(c) Offensive team commits a foul and spot of enforcement is behind its own goal line.
(d) Player on receiving team muffs punt and, trying to get ball, forces or illegally kicks (creating new impetus) it into end zone where it goes out of the end zone or is recovered by a member of the receiving team in the end zone.

Examples of Non-Safety:

(a) Player intercepts a pass with both feet inbounds in the field of play and his momentum carries him into his own end zone. Ball is put in play at spot of interception.
(b) Player intercepts a pass in his own end zone and is downed in the end zone, even after recovering in the end zone. Impetus came from passing team, not from defense. (Touchback)
(c) Player passes from behind his own goal line. Opponent bats down ball in end zone. (Incomplete pass)

It would have been pretty cool if hartley would have made that thirty something yard field goal...

Definitely holding. I pointed it out immediately when the camera angle showed it (probably a replay), but alas, no flag. I don't blame the refs, I blame the Dline for not holding up and letting the oline of the Chiefs get to the second level. In the fist pic, it looks like there is a guy, unblocked, ready to make a tackle. Poor angle I suppose.
