I haven't researched the draft yet but my thinking will be in the 10 through 20 spots In the draft that's where we will likely land. I doubt we be picking in first 10 picks. IMO

Agree on the first 2. Jeffcoat is injured and will likely stay for his Senior year.

Saints will be right at or just under .500. Puts us in the middle of the road in the first round.

I'm shooting 5-8 range.

I'm not sure that we even go .500 for the rest of the schedule. We have the 49ers, Giants, Falcons, Cowboys and Falcons ahead who are all playing way better than us right now.

Boyce is a Junior. He'll probably stay. WR/KR Skye Dawson should get a combine invite and be an early day 3 guy (Conference 60m indoor champ whose game has really improved this year). OL Blaize Foltz was getting attention, too - but he got hurt last week. TCU is an exceptionally young team. I think they're down to only 10 scholarship Seniors right now.

They've played more true freshmen than any other team in the country (16) and are right behind LSU and Ohio State for Freshmen + RS Freshman (27 or 28... can't remember). They've got some insane talent stacking up for the future, though (including a 4* CB transfer from LSU and a 5* RB transfer from Nebraska eligible next year). I think TCU will be lucky to get 2 drafted and maybe 4 in NFL camps this time around.

ETA:

Next year will be strong with Boyce, Maponga, Waymon James and Pachall if he makes it back.

Sam is what you ask for in any DE you want on your team. A good run defender and is a consistent pass rusher, he may not have the pure speed of Mingo but he's bigger and constantly gets it done against SEC tackles.

Naw

A DE who "plays the run" if code for can't rush the passer. I don't care if a DE never makes a tackle in the run game, we need someone who can rush the QB first and foremost. Plain and simple

Lofton is good and I think Hawthorne will prove to be a solid WILL. You don't spend top 10 picks on strongside LBs and I don't think you move Lofton outside for Te'o unless you're sure he's Pro Bowl caliber player.

We desperately need a RDE or a DT that can get after the QB (we may have that in Hicks). If Payton/Spags aren't high on any of the DEs available at our pick, we probably need a LT (I think we can keep Bushrod for a reasonable amount, though) or a WR that can really stretch the field for us. Colston is very good and can make all the tough catches, but Brees has yet to play with a WR that defenses game plan around. I don't know that there are any WRs in this draft that fit that bill, though. Maybe some one trick ponies to run a go route in the later rounds that you would hope to groom, but we're already going to have to develop Toon.

No Smith, Vilma, & Ellis is $21+mil of cap. They can go for an established vet if preferred. Like Avril, Osi, or DT Henry Melton.

What the plan is for Bushrod does play big in the plans. Don't keep him and a replacement is likely needed. Unless they wanna jump with Charles Brown. We rally dunno on this dude. Bushrod had zero starts before they gave him the job. If they feel they can get Joeckel TxAM they might use the 1st Rd there and get a FA DE like the above mentioned.

Brees's hit goes up $7m, Bunkley $3m, Hawthorne $3m, Lofton $5m, and I believe a $4m hit for cutting Smith. And they're probably going to have to give Graham his new deal next season, lest they want to take the chance of pissing him off, let him play out the final year of his paltry rookie deal, then franchise him. A good idea, and we may be able to get away with it if he continues with the disappointing season, but risky.

ETA: The Saints are just sitting on ~$6-8m of cap space right now. Pisses me off since Benson seems willing to spend, plus they structured Brees so that he wouldn't have a big hit this year. They should rework some deals to eat into that space and free some up next season.

This is where it would make sense to trade veterans for draft picks... but we just don't have that many guys that other teams want.

Trade deadline is in the past, but it wouldn't have freed up any more space doing it this year vs. the offseason.

Montgomery is smaller too. I think he will be a Lamar Woodley 3-4 LB.

I think Montgomery could play in a 4-3 as a DE, but im not sure how he would hold up. He's 240 at best.

Everything has him listed as 260. I don't know about that, but ditto with "240 at best." He's got to be over that now, and I bet that he weighs in around 255-260 at the combine. He and Mingo are about the same height but Montgomery CLEARLY has some weight on him + a bigger frame.
