Saints did sign a QB today: Taysom Hill. Saints are signing Hill to a two-year deal that really is a one-year extension of the first-round, $4.6 million contract tender they gave him in March, per source. But Hill is tied to Saints through 2021 season.

Taysom Hill is not an nfl qb. I don’t really care how he feels about competing. He isn’t owed a thing. If it was a completion between he and Jameis in terms of playing Qb,Jameis would lap the guy multiple times over.

Ok I’m gonna say this one more time so please for the love of frick listen up.....

TAYSOM HILL IS NOT A NFL QB. Here are the facts that back that up and proves whoever thinks other wise is a complete and utter idiot.

Hill was with the Saints way before Bridgewater. Who played when Brees went down.

Second time since Hill has been here the Saints have went out and signed a big name to backup Drew although they had Hill on the team.

Hill is 30 years old. He’s been in the league 8 years. How many games has Hill started at QB in those 8 years

He’s a damn good football player. He’s exciting to pull for. I hope they use him more. BUT HE IS NOT NOR NEVER WILL BE A NFL STARTING QB frickTARDS

Business is business but Sean probably shouldn't have come out and said Taysom earned the #2 role, especially since they didn't need to "woo" him over other options.

Why are people so quick to push this narrative? The Saints would have been completely boat raced by the Vikings without Taysom. Honestly, Brees should have been benched at halftime of that game. He was throwing dead ducks while Taysom provided sparks every time he touched the ball.

Hill just signed an extension through 2021 so it doesn’t matter now. We don’t have to worry about losing him now.

We couldnt block for shite that game. Hill gets lucky on a severely underthrown deep ball and people are crowning him.

Because he’ll be 31 going into next season. And at BYU, where he started for 4 seasons and 1 game in a 5th (got injured and a medical redshirt), he only played 6, 13, 5, 1, and 12 games respectively. Only threw 43 tds (to 31 interceptions) and has a career completion % of 58.2. He just hasn’t played a whole lot of quarterback for an NFL starter. Not that Payton couldn’t develop him into a serviceable one, but the odds are very much stacked against him.

Yeah I mean look I agree with you somewhat, although I don’t really see how the stats from college really pertain to the conversation.

Just listen to the way Payton talks about him. I don’t think he’s a franchise QB for the next 10 years by any means, but could they give him a shot and roll with him for a year or two following Drew? I don’t think that’s out of the question.
There’s been plenty of interviews where Payton talks about hill and says some variation of “we believe our guy could be in the building”. He obviously thinks very highly of him, and he’s improved every year. I’m sure this year he will be even more involved at QB

Exactly. It’s not like Taysom was back there making reads and driving us down the field. He used his legs and had a fairly lucky deep throw. Dude is a fantastic gadget player.

He was inaccurate in a bad conference playing against bad (relatively DBs). Our offense has depended on the most accurate QB in NFL history. You don’t see how that’s relevant?

It’s possible, especially if they want to hang on to and pay Kamara, Ram, Lattimore, maybe even Armstead. His low salary would help with that. But if we start letting guys walk and start a big rebuild, it may be better to just roll with a younger QB who can grow with the other young guys.

Disagree. I think he’s going to be even more involved in the offense overall, just not necessarily at QB.

I mean no not really. Drew had a 61% completion percentage at Purdue..
I’m not saying he’s going to come in and be John Elway, but college stats don’t always predict future success. Players grow and improve. Payton definitely seems to think he’s improved.

Only one of those big plays he made was as a QB dropping back. The rest were him being a gadget player. And even that one pass was an underthrown ball. Also likely the Vikings weren’t expecting him to thrown deep so it was essentially a trick play. You’re acting like he was 10/12 in that game in which had to make audibles and read the defense.

A direct quote from Payton -

“I think the role is pretty clear, and first and foremost, we still view him as a quarterback, and we spent a lot of time this offseason discussing our vision for him this season at quarterback, but then also at the F-position. And what I mean by that ... that slash, tight end, wide receiver, he's a tremendous blocker, he's physical. I don't think people realize how fast he is. He's probably one of the three or four fastest guys on the team. So, he'll play that F-position, he'll certainly be involved in the kicking game. It's one of the things he takes pride in and is very good at. "And then the unique situation with our team and with our quarterback, Drew Brees is, he's announced he's coming back for his final season, I think Taysom sees himself as being a starting quarterback in this league and we do too."

Taysom is going to get his shot.

Winston is here to allow taysom to continue his role until he possibly takes over for drew.

Last year we couldn't use him once he was a true second only after Teddy was taking snaps. It hindered his ability to get on the field.

If we want to utilize Taysom you have to have 3 QBs on the roster.
