Compensatory Pick projections

Over the cap is projecting 3 5th rounders for Davenport, Onyemeta, and Ellis. Better than nothing I guess but was hoping for a few 4ths.

Underhill is projecting 1 5th and two 4ths but at the LEAST, one 4th.

Three starters.. doesn't that seem kinda low?
Whatever.. Saints need twenty draft picks to try and fill this roster after all the cap casualties

That looks better. Hopefully we can snag a 2nd for Lattimore

Who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky and snag a 4th or 5th rounder that turns out to be a huge help to the team.

Or we do something smart like keeping Lattimore

Keeping him would be smart, but something tells me he's done with the Saints and wants out.

We've played significant portions of our last 2 seasons without Lattimore. In order to keep him, we will most likely have to restructure him, and I'm not sure the injury issues will improve with age. Take his cap hit in 2024 without him, but hopefully we get a pick for the trouble.

He is 27, when he plays he is elite, a top 5 corner. Do you trust Adebo and Taylor to hold down the corner spot?
The biggest issue we have is our line. We need to increase sacks. We were 28th or 29th in the league in sacks. Great line play can cover up average DBs.
That is on Allen and Loomis missing in the draft. We have always built our lines, but the last 5 years we have missed out on O and D linemen.
Maybe bring Rankins back, or snag Reader or Pierce for the interior.
Maybe get Floyd or Uche for exterior.
OT is super deep. This is the one draft where you could trade down, get some picks, and still grab a starting tackle.

"When he plays", I agree. He played in 7 games in 2022, and he played in 10 games in 2023. 17/34 = 50%...

First we get under the salary cap. Over about 70 million for next year.
Second you need to extend/offer those players you want to keep and not lose for next season.
Third what money do you have if any use to plug holes with FA's.
Fourth draft to fill any remaining holes.

I am waiting for whoever does the cap thread to get it going. Going on over the cap makes my brain hurt.

the main problem with the saints is drafting we wasted 4 low draft picks which should have been playing at a high level for 8 or so years -- 2 on davenport one on turner and now the left tackle--- 4 high level players would make a huge difference imagine 3 defensive line studs added to what we have now

All of this. He is the 5th highest paid CB, when factoring average contract $$$/year, and plays like it when he's on the field. But, as you pointed out, he's only played 1/2 the games the past 2 years. There are rumors of some internal turmoil involving him, even suggestions that he could have played at the end of the season.
The contract was restructured to help the 2024 cap situation, but also in a way that makes trading him between 6/2 & the beginning of the regular season (haven't seen the specific date, just references to it from underhill & others) palatable.

We have until March 15th I think to get under the cap. So lots of squeezing, kicking, cutting and creative accounting till then.

Unfortunately for us, so many underclassmen stayed in school that the draft isn’t deep. A lot of these guys are also 5th/6th year guys. Well draft them just to keep our status as the oldest team in the league.

If we trade Lattimore for anything less than a first...
Why at that point between dead cap and everything else take that hit?
Lattimore isnt some scrub...he plays an elite position at an elite level and there is no reason to think or suggest he will fall off soon
Well to the he is injury prone argument types...maybe but season ending injury or physical ability injuries he has avoided by and large
Elite CBs there are not many and he is one when healthy
I'm not expecting an early first...but anything starting at 20s probably optimistic
But the later the pick the more the compensation goes up and Saints need draft picks to fill out the roster so give me 27 or later plus a 3rd
Brian Thomas at 14th
OL at Latt pick
Defense in both 2nd and 3rd
Best available with comp picks either all 5ths or combo in the 4th...players that should be graded as lottery chips DL depth, OL Depth then roll into next season more complete and dynamic. Win win.
