Looked this up expecting to see similar efficiency numbers despite lack of deep throws... not even close.

Rating
Manning: 67.9 (34th)
Brees: 106.4 (6th)

Completion %
Manning: 59.8 (28th)
Brees: 70.5 (2nd)

TD%
Manning: 2.7 (32nd)
Brees: 6.2 (9th)

INT%:
Manning: 5.1 (35th)
Brees: 1.5 (6th)

I don’t see how this isn’t irrefutable objective evidence that Drew is not washed and is in fact still a top-10 QB even past his peak. Even I as one of the staunchest “don’t retire” posters had overestimated his decline.

Manning didnt have a Kamara to dump it off to.

I feel like Brees def benefited from seans system and it helped hide his flaws. Where as Manning had Gase calling plays.

True, but 2010 Peyton wouldn’t have had numbers like those with D Thomas/Sanders/Daniels

That’s a massive decline in individual ability; yes Drew has declined somewhat but this puts it in proper perspective: Peyton was right to hang it up after going from top-3 to literally the worst; Drew went from top-3 to... 6th.

The problem is Brees can’t stay healthy anymore. Which is normal for a person of his age. Prior to getting hurt, he was doing fine but after getting hurt he was just capable of dinking and dunking with a diminished accuracy.

That thumb injury was a freak thing, could’ve happened to anyone at any age.

The ribs are more of a concern, but he was back to playing at a high level by the 2nd half of the KC game. I’m not sure how accurate Brittany’s “torn rotator cuff” statement was, because it doesn’t seem possible to throw at all with a full tear.

Yeah, i don't think he had a torn rotator cuff. When he mentioned his injuries in his announcement there was no mention of it.

Where is the arm strength calculation in all of theses stats? That is the key. He could still throw with accuracy just not down the field to any degree. And had not been able to the last 3 seasons or more.

NFL.com shows Manning with 24 20yd+ completions and 31 for Drew.

So yeah it’s declined but how much does it really matter? He could still lead very quick scoring drives ( see SF 2019 when he drove us down the field for the 1 seed and then our D shriveled up)

He's still an above average qb. The issue honestly is our inability to convert our offense to something else in the playoffs to make up for it.

That and fricking cook ruining things.

Brees could still throw an accurate 10 yard pass. Manning’s 10 yard pass looked like dog shite. Brees was better.... but still sucked arse.

Brees is still a top 10 qb with his accurate short game and intelligence but you can’t win a super bowl without have a threat to go over the top. Defenses just cheat up and stop the short game. We were just too limited. Prime Brees which was still prime as of like 5 years ago and shredding defenses over the top with Ted Ginn would have won at least two super bowls with this team had he not declined.

Bruh if you cant tell Drew was a shell, go look at any game from pretty much 2008 to 2016. And then go look at the stats decline year after year after that.

Manning didn’t have Sean Payton, but i agree Brees could still throw the ball 9 yards and make really good decisions with his multiple weapons.

Manning was one of the worst players in the league that year by the time the playoffs started. there was a controversy if he should start. Brees was still at least an average QB.

He was clearly hurt in the Tampa game. The point is he keeps having all these “little” injuries. These injuries do affect his play in games in which he has to go deeper with his throws. No he isn’t like Manning whose arm was completely shot, but he was still nowhere near the player he used to be.

Did he get hurt on the QB sneak?

Should have been a first on the previous down but a lot of plays seemed to be marked just short.

Did Brees look even close to his first two performances against the Bucs? The Bucs were stacking the box and getting lots of pressure. His injury didn’t mean much for weaker teams like the Panthers which couldn’t stop the short throws. But now he was facing a defense that was getting pressure, stopping the run, and forcing him to go deep. And he couldn’t.

before getting his body crushed earlier in the season and hurting his shoulder, brees was still gtg. wish he would've been healthy for the playoffs. that's what people will remember about his last year.

If by “stats” you mean “total yards” sure but he was much better in other areas during the 2017-2020 stretch.

That’s cap
Manning couldn’t even dump it off effectively at times in his last year

If Brees had decided to play next year, it's likely that the Saints would finish with at least a 10-6 record. Unfortunately, Ref's don't call any of the holding and PI penalties in the playoffs. You could see that on the interception to Mike Thomas in the Tampa game. Defender had MT wrapped around the waist and there was no call.
