(Dean-retired, schimpf- might be moving to AAA soon, ochinko- AA, Gibbs- AA).

I' won't guarantee it because I haven't done the research, but I'd be willing to bet these kids were full time baseball players their whole life. In most parts of the country that means they are playing baseball year round their entire lives. These kids are decent athletes that are as polished as they come at the college level. Chad played a little baseball between football and spring practice. To say they are more natural baseball players is far from the truth. The true athletes in baseball (for the most part) never see a college field. We can all agree that LSU has the best program in the country over the past 2 decades. They had 8 players in the bigs last year. Not exactly a huge number. The point is, CHad's natural talent is far superior to any one of these four guys and his ceiling is way higher. To say he doesn't have AA talent?!?!?!?

He was drafted in the MLB draft by the Brewers AFTER his car wreck. NOw, you think they would draft a player that was on his death bed and was probably never going to walk again, according to reports at the time, if he wasn't MLB caliber?

You do realize that only about 20 players drafted in the last round since 1965 have made it to the show, right? By that point, teams are drafting to fill out minor league rosters.

My guess is the Brew Crew drafted him because they felt it was a no lose situation. He may have had the talent, but until he goes out and does it, no one knows if he still has it.

You are wrong my friend. In the late rounds some picks go to fill out rosters, and some go to long term long shot MLB propects that have some other reason to not sign, e.g. going play in the NFL.

First off, as has be en pointed out already, the Brewers drafted Jones before his accident. And, as I posted before, a statistically insignificant number of players drafted in the 50th round make it to the bigs. Most of the players that do we're actually drafted twice, the second time being selected much higher ie. Buster Posey. And I doubt any of them almost lost their leg.

I hope for the best for CJ. If he never makes it an active roster, it'd be great for him to at least make a practice squad, because he'll make more money doing that than he ever will playing baseball.

You're correct, I had my dates wrong, but that still has nothing to do with his talent level. It had everything to do with his sign-ability. He was going pro in football. Just as he was drafted in the 13th round out of high school, not based on his talent, but based on the fact that he was going play football at LSU. Had he not already committed to football out of high school he would have been drafted much higher in the MLB draft.

In fact CHad was listed as mid first round to early second round talent coming out of high school. This happens all of the time. If teams know they can't sign a guy for one reason or another he drops in the draft.
