TE Taysom Hill

Hill is currently on the PUP list, as he's recovering from a torn ACL. The fan favorite is expected to remain on the PUP list to start the season, as head coach Kellen Moore revealed last week Hill isn't close to a return to the field.

Hill is still a playmaker when healthy, but the Saints could save $10 million towards the 2025 salary cap if they cut him. It's unlikely Hill does get cut, but he won't be returning to action in the first month of the season either. The Saints can stash Hill on PUP so he doesn't have to take a 53-man spot.

Not sure why you want to move on from one of the best offensive tools in the league. It would need to be a sensible extension that helps spread his hit and make it make sense for him to ride out his last years wearing black and gold.

Hill would’ve been cut by now if they were going to cut him

Oft-injured and getting old quick. If we cut him, he's obviously signing with the Broncos and will win multiple SuperBowls before retiring.

There is no reason to cut him while he is on the PUP list. If they are already on the hook for his salary, you see where you are in the season before making a decision. If we are 0-6, maybe you bring him back and trade him. If we are 3-3, maybe you bring him back and lean on him.

TE Taysom Hill

It's unlikely Hill does get cut

So, they created a list and put on a player that may not be in danger of getting cut

Wont happen.

He's 35 coming off a major knee injury. We're still not sure this staff has a role for him if/when he returns.

Best case scenario, Hill retires and the Saints spread out the remaining ~20M over the next 5 years.

Most likely scenario, the Saints keep him on the roster for 2025 spending all or most of his time on PUP/IR then void his 2026-2027 season. and eat the ~12M next season.

He will not get another contract or renegotiation with the Saints.

Basically he should be cut but they understand how the saints are. No reason to keep him but his jersey sells and the facepainters love him

In order to do that, they would need to extend his current contract. He's already slated to be a FA after this season, combined with the $10M salary for this year is why he is a perfect candidate to be cut.

Whether he plays, gets cut, or traded; he will have a $9.7M cap hit next year. Only way to avoid that is to extend him before the new league year. The question is, do you do something about his $18M cap hit this year, of which you are stuck with $8M no matter what happens

They're not extending him.

They don't need to save the money this year. But 10M in hand to put towards next years cap would be bad. (There is nothing worth spending the money on in the FA market at this point.)

They don't need to clear a spot on the roster because he wont count against the roaster 53 man until at least October but I'm betting on he doesn't come off of PUP and goes to the IR this season. There is no role for him and wins don't matter this season.

Taysom has played his last game as a Saints sadly and likely in the NFL. They Saints wont cut him because they don't do that to players like him.

I know what you guys are saying , that there is an avenue to cut him and save the money but they won't do it. It makes not sense for where the team is at today.

I agree that I do not think they cut him, unless he comes back and is not a fit in the offense (which sounds unthinkable). He is just the low hanging fruit for these writers to get some clicks while trying to fill the time between now and the start of the season. And, if he does get cut, they get to claim the all-important "that one time I was right about......; therefore, I know some shite"

I'm not petitioning to cut him. Trying to rile up Chad a bit. Guess I should have said bring Morstead back and it would have been more obvious.

I believe there is a rule against cutting someone for injury in the offseason without a settlement. If we were to put him on IR we could cut and then do that, but not an outright release.

Once the season starts I believe it is fine to release him at that point, even with an injury.
