I mean, does it really matter if you hit on the picks?
Having twice the elite draft capital to hit on better players matters
Or, in another way, would you rather "hit" 2x or 4x?

I agree. It would be nice to have those picks. They overreacted to getting a WR and an OT (that didn't play a down in the first half of the season). If both end up as quality starters, then it will be a wise investment. Olave has already proven that he can play
I like olave, but that was just a bad trade all around. Penning would have to turn into a pro bowl player for that trade to even be somewhat agreeable.

I was thinking 135/4 with 80 guaranteed.

Or take the guys that you believe in vs taking guys you don’t just to keep future capital is a loser mentality. I’m all for trading back in those situations but when has this org ever done that?

Jared Goff and Jimmy fricking G have made the Super Bowl since 2018. Are you guys going to continue to talk out of your own arse or are you just gluttons for punishment?
Goff was on his rookie contract for his original team, correct? That’s my point.
Jimmy G I guess I will grant you. But he didn’t win a Super Bowl , and I don’t get the impression you think he is very good.
It doesn’t really matter. Nobody reading this thread thinks Carr is very good and will make a difference. This is all just posturing for some sort of moral victory that we didn’t do something unprecedentedly stupid. This move is exactly how not great teams stay not great, you all know that I am right.

It's about efficiently using resources
I'm not opposed to trading up, but doing it irrationally or too aggressively is not the way. That's why we lost our top-10 pick this year and a 2nd next year. That deal is HORRIBLE in retrospect (and I called it in real time).

So just suck arse until we can miraculously land a guy on a rookie contract that can come in and be a Goff, which more than often don’t hit at all and then continue to suck for long stretches? Or sign Carr and continue to draft well and replenish the roster and set that future QB that we’ll eventually draft up for success while not completely sucking arse and becoming a laughing stock like the Lions, Jets, Jags and Browns?
I’m not expecting Carr to win us a SB. Could it still happen? Absolutely. I’d rather have a guy like that on my team than Andy Dalton. Carr is more like an Alex Smith. I’d much rather keep our winning culture intact and be set up like the Chiefs from 2013-2017 and make a big trade one year into the top 10 for a guy we believe in rather than be forced into taking guys we’re not 100% sure on just because we have a top 3 pick every year.
I’d have much rather have had fired DA and move towards a rebuild but that didn’t happen. The course they’ve gone could be worse and still leaves an Avenue for hope for winning now and also retooling the roster for the future and maybe getting a guy they’re more comfortable with in future years.

Eh. Like I said. If Olave keeps doing what he’s doing and Penning is solid at LT for us for 10+ years, it’s really only horrible to you. I don’t mind the trade since we ended up with a first and second anyway.
Would it be nice to have all four? Yes. But Olave produced just fine for where he was selected. Not every pick is Marshon Lattimore Rookie of the Year, though you could argue Olave was fricked out of being another Rookie of the Year. He was very deserving. And Penning was solid before he went down and was drawing rave reviews from the coaching staff according to Underhill. Both those guys could be Pro Bowlers from here on out

ccording to Underhill
He has become completely unreliable with his sunshine pumping. If Underhill was correct, there's no way a disaster like 2022 could happen.
Penning looked like a huge project and was a borderline bust in year 1.
Olave looked like a WR2, which is fine. Worth 2, 1sts and a future 2nd? Probably not.

We have enough on our roster (that we have to keep regardless) that will keep us in the same territory we are now.
Possible playoff team with a near-guaranteed early exit...just like the last 2 years. We don't need a $35M/year QB to accomplish that, is the issue.
Posted on 3/6/23 at 5:27 pm to SlowFlowPro
Carr is the best QB we could get if we are trying to win.
However I don't have faith in the organization. The salary cap is preventing us from getting better. We'll have tons of dead money with players that are no longer on the team or past their prime.

need to get young and get lower on contracts.... this is the opposite of what we need....

Chiefs and Frank Clark’s agent Erik Burkhardt were unable to find common ground on a reworked deal during several conversations at the combine and the expectation now is that Kansas City will release the 29-year-old DE who is the NFL’s third all-time leading postseason sack leader, per sources.
Now go drag KC for not re-signing him

Annnnnd Geno Smith just got $35M a year from the Seahawks.

A 29 year old, overpriced edge?
That's you're gotcha attempt?

Is their long term cap situation comparable to ours?

Well I was referring to any QB on a rookie contract. Thought I made that clear.

Yeah I guess if you know the future I shouldn’t be arguing with you.
