Rosenthall just tweeted, said it sounds very noncommittal about picking up the option.
Do we sniff this if they don't? I'm not a "get all the LSU" type of guy, but the man is a playmaker through and through, and you can't have enough of that.

I don't think coming back to New Orleans would be good for him.

This.
He needed the right structured situation to succeed in the NFL, and he sure got that with Patrick Peterson.
If Arizona (I'm guessing it would be because of his history of injuries) doesn't pick up on his option, I'd hope that he'd find something similar in a mentor elsewhere.
As much as I'd love to see him in a Saints uniform, I'd much prefer his story of redemption to continue.

Is it just the people he'd surround himself with? Not too clear on his backstory other than the weed problems he had at LSU.

I think he definitely needed out back then in order to succeed. I don't think it is a lifelong ailment. I think we have some decent leadership in the building and people that would help him if he came on now.
He just shouldn't be allowed to spend any free time with Kamara.

I mean the weed at LSU is part of it.
I'd think the fact that he pissed away being one of the most hyped players in the country over something like weed is indicative of the people he was around.

For sure... but, coming back to old surroundings opens a door for old habits to resurface, and I'm not sure that'd even be something he'd wanna do.

He will be a Saint. I feel it

He's 25 years old now and has been living on his own for a while. He also comes back to New Orleans occasionally. I think he'll be ok.

He grew up with a "rough crowd" just a stone's throw from the Super Dome. Getting him away from those negative influences (i.e. drug dealers and gang bangers) and pairing him with a mentor like PP7 is credited by many for his turnaround and keeping him on the straight and narrow enabling his NFL career to blossom.
Bringing him back around that crowd might tempt him to relapse back into the kinds of behavior that got him kicked out of LSU years ago.

Honestly I think the much bigger concern is the people here who may do something than him. He seems like a completely different person and I'd have a hard time believing he'd all of a sudden be a pothead do nothing here. I remember him saying at one point he gets nervous to see certain people when he's in town and think that's a much bigger concern for him than anything.

Yeah but he technically didn't go to LSU his junior year.
We like people with some LSU connects. Like Hicks and Breaux types. We would never add a Peterson, OBJ, or LF type though. Those guys are yucky.

My thing is he's a grown arse man at this point in his career. He can decide what to do vs. what not to do.
