Payton's point was that it was a distinction with no difference. We were either going to stop Brady or we weren't. The time wasn't going to be a factor.

Way to trust your defense, I guess.

It would have been fun to watch him defend those play calls in the event that they lost.

Yeah. He said he felt like we needed to score a TD because I’d didn’t matter how much time we gave Brady, he would have been able to get them close enough for a go ahead FG.

Basically, “you play to win the game!”

yeah his explanation was really well done I thought

in the simplest terms... it was "I've got to score the TD to make it as easy as possible for the defense. TB's run D is really good so our best chance of getting 9 yards is through the air"

and yes CSP acknowledged the booing from the crowd from the play calling

but his explanation at least made sense as I heard it. TB's run D is really good and the pass D is really suspect... that was a key talking point in the pregame

the goal in his mind was get the touchdown all the way... it didn't matter if he scored the TD on 1st down or 3rd down... he wasn't playing the clock game... b/c with Tom Brady on the other sideline he knew it didn't really matter how much time was left

I can definitely understand that explanation and we're all certainly glad PJ got the pick-6 to ice it since the offense didn't get it in

I still don't think you understand.

He's saying that time wasn't going to be a factor. He knew his defense had a chance to stop them. But, to increase their chances it was going to take a TD.

Was totally against the play calls at the end. But I heard CSP ‘s postgame comments and he swayed me.
He said he plans to score a TD every play and at that moment he felt his best chance of scoring was passing, not running. I was really pissed when they gave Brady that much time by calling 3 straight passes. Glad it worked out!!!
Best game I’ve seen in a long time.

I wanted him to run on 1st and maybe pass on 2nd and 3rd. I agree you go for a TD there with Bucs still having timeouts. Nothing else the 3rd down completion still made them use a timeout, it all worked out though.

Play calling is fine. Execution of said plays are atrocious. Namely this WR group.

Under this scenario, they still have over a minute and a timeout to go 40 yards. Time wasnt going to be the issue.

I would give more credence to that if the routes weren't very quick outs. Neither reached the end zone, and even if the one to Kamara was caught on 3rd he was getting tackled at the 5. I think the Harris call wasn't terrible but for it being incomplete.

Y’all are arguing as if we scored a TD with his play calling

We did not score a TD with that horrible play calling

Why don’t you guys acknowledge that?

Geez

It was horrible play calling.
