As a QB alone, Taysom did not belong in the NFL. Terrible pocket presence and his best asset, his legs, if not a designed run, dude somehow had zero awareness of when to break the pocket and make a play.

I think "fair" is a bit relative here. You simply can't give a guy one offseason & training camp in nine years to fully focus on playing QB (the most difficult position in all of football) and claim to have done a good job at trying to develop him for that role. But it wasn't in the Saints' best interest to be fair to Taysom in that way. It was in the team's best interest to be good/great at developing him as the Swiss Army Knife, having him spread out his time and development among numerous positions.

Fair is fair.
Taysom never demanded to be treated and trained only as a QB.
Taysom never asked to be traded because of unfair treatment per his QB role. Taysom never turned down new contracts for the role the Saints offered him. Taysom never chose to leave the Saints to pursue his QB career.
There is nothing here unfair ever with the Saints and I'm sure he would tell anyone the same.

There are levels to this.

It was obvious to anyone paying attention that Taysom dreamed of being a starting QB in the NFL. He was the ultimate team player though and everyone described him in that way. He did what was asked of him and didn't cause waves. That was part of his greatness.

Drew Brees, someone who knows a thing or two about playing QB, said that the Saints should have committed to Taysom as a QB earlier and given him the opportunity to have the offense built around him.

Biggest problem for Taysom was the untimely turnovers
Fumbles cost Saints a few games in some very close playoff misses

I never had dreams of starting at QB in the NFL, so that was just a nonsensical remark.

Why would Brees tarnish his legacy by talking at length like he has about how highly he thought of Taysom's QB ability? It wasn't as though he just made a passing comment about it. Brees has done interviews and made unprompted social media posts supporting the idea that Taysom "would have been a really good quarterback in this league for a long time if he had been given the opportunity." Reading the room, one could tell that he was obviously very solid behind the idea.

The Saints may not have used him enough, but they were the only team who knew how to use him at all.

IN some ways the Saints were PROTECTING Taysom and preserving him from further concussions. I don't think he was wasted.

Taysom's up by 5 o'clock
Taysom's givin' it all he got
Taysom's job is six to nine but
Taysom's home by nine O five
Taysom helps to cook the steak
Taysom helps to wash the plates
Taysom puts the kids to bed
Taysom reads a book to them

Why can't you be Taysom

Taysom loves Tribena so
Taysom puts her on a pedestal
Taysom's wish is her command but
Taysom don't make no demands
Taysom's always back in time
Taysom's not the cheatin' kind
Taysom's full of compliment
Taysom's such a gentleman

Why can't you be Taysom

Cause I'm free
Free of any made-to-order liabilities
Thank God I'm free
Cos it's hard enough for me
to take care of me, oh-oh
